Re: 8 hour trip?

Are you moving permanently? Is that why you need to take them with you?

Re: My crab keeps getting naked, running around and then going into a new shell

Thanks for adding those things, GB! Isolating a crab isn't being mean - it's protecting him from the other crabs when he's in a weakened state. An iso doesn't need to be big or fancy. I have only ever used a plastic container and a 2 liter pop bottle inside my main tank when I have iso'd a crab. Mos...

Re: above ground molting

I wouldn't be in any hurry to put him back with the others. I'd give him another week or two - hopefully someone with more experience will weigh in too!

Re: My crab keeps getting naked, running around and then going into a new shell

You just don't have enough for him to choose from, they can be picky. Is he still isolated from the other crabs? Play sand is cheap, like a big 50 pound bag for $7 here in Canada, and cheaper in the US! You also need to invest in proper water conditioner and marine salt. I hope this little dude make...

Re: New crabitat

Nice! What are you using for substrate? It looks like it may not be deep enough - needs to be at least 6 inches, or 3 times as deep as your largest crab, whichever is deeper.

Re: Molted and dead?

I know it isn't technically an emergency, since he has already passed away. But you could fill in the Emergency template, so that we can help trouble shoot whether there are things that could be improved in your set up.

Re: Hows this setup looking?

Crafting mesh is also sometimes called 'plastic canvas', in case you are having trouble finding it under that name.

It's funny you say 'like a tombstone', Motor....I say it looks like a surf board!

Re: My crab keeps getting naked, running around and then going into a new shell

You have a number of things that need to be corrected in order to have healthy crabs. See my replies below. Be sure to read through the care sheets, they have all the information that you need: http://www.hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/viewforum.php?f=120 1. What kind of substrate is used in your t...

Re: Humidity

Did you cover the lid? If not, the humidity will not last. Crab Island Jungle Bed is cypress bark. I know that Cypress is on the safe wood list, but from what I have read, it is not a good substrate. Do you plan to remove the gravel and do moistened play sand? EE would be a better addition than what...

Re: Humidity

You need to remove the gravel. Are you using play sand? You will need to add water and mix it up to be sand castle consistency. The water needs to be dechlorinated fresh or salt water. Then if you need to mist/ add more water later, it should be dechlor fresh water. Many of us use the added EE becau...

Re: My crab keeps getting naked, running around and then going into a new shell

A naked crab means something is not right. Had he surface molted? If so, it is still too early for him to be back in the main tank a week later.
As GB said, please fill in the emergency template so we can help you trouble shoot.

Re: First shell change is crab not happy?

Many of us use a Rubbermaid/ Tupperware type of plastic bowl, and use zip ties to attach some plastic canvas/ craft mesh. Some of us use rocks in the bottom of the dish. Some of us use a dish with a ramp built-in.

Re: Humidity

A couple of questions:
How large is your tank and what is on for a lid/ cover?
What is the temperature?
What type and how deep is your substrate?
