Re: Egg crate

Ziptieing things like wood and plastic plants over the top is always a good way to create second levels. Or shower caddies.

But I agree with above, eggcrate is fine for most crabs except for the exceptionally small.

Re: Actually building from scratch

Just a dream. I would love a 200+ gal tank. But finances such as they are that won't happen for a long time. You may be better off building a plywood structure... have looked into it, supplies in aus are a little expensive and not really worth it under a couple of hundred gallons. Sent from my SM-G...

Re: Ramshorn snails

As long as they sourced from a colony that's disease free, and have been in your care for a couple of generations - less likely to contain diseases - I dont see the issue. You may have kill them beforehand, squishing them with your fingers/thumb would be a good method. Sent from my SM-G935F using Ta...

Re: Substrate

Depending on how moist it is, you could use a couple of cups/a bottle of water treated with prime for the entire substrate volume, and mix it in!

Re: 90 gal basic setup

Imo, do what is easiest for you. Keeping it to one side can be a lot easier for maintainence, and allow a 'crabby beach' using gravel/pebbles to help reduce the amount of sand getting tracked into the dishes. And it doesn't look that bad either - keep all the water on one side. Plus if the tank is v...

In my option, rust isnt that harmful. Is it desired, no, but will it kill them, most likely not. https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink/topic?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ehermitcrabassociation%2Ecom%2FphpBB%2Fviewtopic%2Ephp%3Ft%3D79277&share_tid=79277&share_fid=28566&share_type=t&link_source=app Sent from my S...

Re: PPs and Es pools

The only thing to keep in mind, some members in the 0ast has had issues with KKs breaking, since the plastic isnt of best quality. They reccomended doubling them up so if it does crack, the bottom container should catch much of the water. :)

Re: Tank Build Diary

That looks amazing. I love that 'lap level' you have going around the tank. Always wanted to do one, but never actually got around to it. Looks amazing in your setup!

Re: reptile vines

And dont do what I did, by using it as a way to get in/out of the SW pool. After a couple of weeks, basically the whole thing had rusted and had to be thrown out!

Re: Installing UVB

Is uvb recommended for all crabs? I have all PPs and never used them. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk It's something of, if you can set one up, theres some evidence to support that crabs do like it (and better colouration for us!) but certainly not required for successful long term keeping. Would no substrate be better than EE?? Until this weekend?
EE is fine to use by itself, just many dont reccomend it. I personally dont see an issue with using pure EE, it's just harder to get the right consistency for burrowing.

Re: CrabStreet Journal info inaccurate?

I know a few members from there. There methodologies are different from HCA (and many other care groups) regarding moistened substrate, since many groups do suggest doing so! Are they wrong, I dont think so. Most bags of playsand I've used have been slightly moist that after a couple of weeks, they ...
