Re: Molter dug up, missing limbs

Update. She’s still in iso. She tucked herself down into a corner and hasn’t moved or eaten in a few days. I duct taped the sides of the container and draped the top and sides of her corner of the tank, hopefully it’s dark enough. Fingers crossed for a successful molt

Re: Molter dug up, missing limbs

I don’t know ... do you think it’s safe to let her out of iso? She’s not showing signs of molt, still eating and active. She tips the water repeatedly until the iso floods and stinks like sulphur. Every few days I have to dump it and put fresh sub in I worry that she can’t defend herself if another ...

Re: Molter dug up, missing limbs

On the plus side she seems to have decided to trust me. She has no issues with eating while I’m poking around in her container, doesn’t tuck in even if I pick her up. . Because it’s a small area it gets stink pretty quick, especially the water. I enlarged the air holes, hoping that helps. The others...

Re: Molter dug up, missing limbs

Thanks. I meant was I missing anything/doing everything right regarding how I deal with the injured crab. My setup is pretty decent. 70g tank with 5 pps, playsand and ee mix, plenty deep for the largest crab. 80/80 ish. I’m not worried about my setup. I know I do need to revamp their feeding routine...

Molter dug up, missing limbs

Hey all. I haven’t posted here in ages! I’ve had crabs for roughly 10 years and this is the first time this has happened. Just want to make sure I’m doing everything right. Please tell me if I’m missing something. So one of my girls was down for a molt. The other day we heard a lot of chirping but c...

some things from my garden

Hi, as the season winds down I'm wanting to harvest some goodies from the garden to dehydrate for the crabs to last through the winter. Just not sure if some of these are safe or not, couldn't find them on the food lists. we don't use chemicals in the garden oregano cosmos snapdragons leaves and bra...

Re: Crab stole shell from molting crab

sorry I haven't checked in here all week, my inlaws were visiting. Glad he reshelled for you, how is he doing now? he's likely eaten all of his exo by now and getting some colour back? if he looks like he's hardened up and is active you might be able to take him out of iso at this point :)

Re: Crab stole shell from molting crab

This is natural crab behavior, so there is no shock. Your #2 crab that is molting will find a new shell once it has come up from a molt. ack! sorry, but this is not good advice. it's not natural or OK for a hermit crab to be without a shell for any length of time. and a molting crab that has been d...

Re: I Present my 55 -> 90G setup!

I have to agree that it sounds really overcrowded. even if you didn't have the big pools and other critters in there it would still be too small a tank to house that many LHC's, even temporarily. You'll end up with aggression, cannibalism, surface molts, disturbed molts, etc. and iso'ing molters is ...

Re: TOTE TUTORIAL~ 8D

I'm so making a sand turtle. so how about some tips on how to attach gauges and climbing things and levels etc since suction cups probably wouldn't work too well? I just linked this to someone and then realized it didn't really explain that unless I missed it lol

Re: Post your jumbo( or biggest crab)

Hermie nails are sharp, Rupert sat on my hand eating coconut earlier and it felt like getting injections in my fingers. >.< I know right? I was holding Piggy for a few seconds the other day and he latched on with his nails... i didn't think he would ever let go lol. that's how Spongebob pinched my ...

Re: What's on today's menu & recipe sharing

i need to change out the food before i head to bed not sure what it'll be yet today. but yesterday i gave them some boiled egg, the dry mix i made plus bloodworms, and i tossed in a couple shrimp tails since i have another molter up. all 3 crabs were gunning for the same shrimp tail and it looked li...

Re: Post your jumbo( or biggest crab)

haha well mine have never tried to deliberately pinch me, but Spongebob flails around like crazy when I pick her up so i'm always expecting her to grab on to a finger just because it's there. and Gir's toenails are so sharp! he managed to pull himself forward on my hand (even though i was holding hi...

Re: Post your jumbo( or biggest crab)

I've seen the pics of Godzilla a couple of times around here and I still love them lol. so cute. and i love that shell, he looks so bad-a also... you all are brave for handling the jumbos like that, I'd be so afraid of getting chomped (cause i don't think you could call that a pinch, those claws cou...
