Re: Ideas for a Custom Tank

Wow! That Palludarium looks amazing! I really don't want to build something that might fail. Thank you BOTH for your feedback on totes and alternative ideas! :) I have no idea what it would take to build a custom cube, out of glass? I thought about wood and water proofing the heck out of it, but hon...

Ideas for a Custom Tank

Help me brainstorm ideas for a custom tank. I have a space in my living room that is about 24" (2 feet) by 24" (2 feet). I want a smaller sized tank for adding some of Mary's captive babies (Mary, if you're reading this, I haven't applied yet because I want to get this tank set up first). I original...

Is it safe to use sticks and stones from my backyard in the crabitat
I wouldn't put any pine wood, sticks, cones, or needles in the tank. Also check the specific plant name against the unsafe food list to just double check everything.

Re: 65 Gallon New Crabitat!

A TV show would be fun! Similar to Bar Rescue too! Go in an yell at everyone on how terrible their tank conditions are then threaten to walk out and not do their tank! Then reconsider and do the new tank! I highly doubt that would ever happen. It would be huge to promote awareness and general care....

Re: 50 gallon build

Good job on the build. IMO using the two 2.5 gallon tanks is a much safer option.

Re: Possible Molt?

Hi! Digging is normal behavior. When my crabs dig down and are exposed next to the glass, they'll usually "cover" that spot because they like their privacy. Don't push down to collapse or compact the substrate. Also never try to re-bury a crab. Crabs don't molt immediately, they dig down for awhile ...

Re: Four crabs molting, with a woopsy on my part

Ok, thank you! So far, ive really only handled them to put them in iso, and get the pill bug out of the ones shell. Additional question about the shells, should i put them in the ISO tank, or the main? Extra shells should be where the crabs are. So if you have one in iso and one in main tank, divid...

Re: Question about owning new crabs

He looks like a PP that just hasn't molted in awhile. When you bump the heat up, he should get a little more active. I would leave him alone for the most part. You could try moving the food closer to the coco hut to try to encourage him to eat. If he's extreme lethargic, I would put him in iso and o...

Re: Sudden Extreme Humidity Loss While I'm Away From Home

I had the same thought about the contractors drying out the house. A glass top will help a lot! Something else you could try is taking a towel, dampening it (wet and squeeze out) in dechlorinated water and placing it on top of your lid. It might help seal things in in the meantime, but don't put it ...

Re: New hermit crab owner in need off advice

Hello! Welcome to Crabbing and HCA. Make sure you read this basic care guide, as Curlysister said. Here's a link: https://www.hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=120&t=119273 New crabs will almost always immediately dig down once they have access to new good substrate. The crabs have bee...

Awesome! I put a 30 gal on top of my 55 gal. I used super strong velcro on the tank lips to secure them together.

Re: Moving with my crabs

I hate moving with crabs, it's my least favorite part about having crabs. My advice is to keep your crabs happy and healthy leading up to the move. You want them in their best physical shape as much as possible. Make sure you're giving them a proper diet: protein, calcium, veggies, honey, etc. Befor...
