Re: Question about releasing crabs back to the wild
Thanks for your replies. Probably you are right about the vicious cycle about buying and releasing and catching back again.

Question about releasing crabs back to the wild
Let me know if you have any opinions on this? I stay in the tropical Singapore in which we can find hermit crabs at some of our beaches. I am not giving up on the crabs that I keep, but I thought of buying some from the pet shop and setting them free. Reason: crabs kept in the pet shop are in a negl...

Re: My experience with a flooded tank(1.5 inches)
Wow, this looks better than the one I got. And that's a lot of sand as well.
Please take more snap shots when you get it.

Re: My experience with a flooded tank(1.5 inches)
Go "Far East flora" at queensway. It's called lawn sand and cost about 4 bucks per pack (5 kg?) Wash it 3 times in water before use. Drain off as much water as you can. Then mix with marine salt and its ready to use! I add 30% fine coral sand to this, which you can get from the fish shops. My crabs ...

Re: My experience with a flooded tank(1.5 inches)
Sand is not too expensive in Singapore. Really depends on the brand you get and where you get from. What is the weight of the 30 bucks bag?

Re: Molting crab in uncovered hole!
Does anyone know what happened?
Naked crab in substrate and shell is tossed somewhere else.
I am also encountering this.

Re: What went wrong?
Thanks for the valuable inputs.
I will see what I can do with the exisit ing set up.
Btw, which species of hermit crab don't grow too big and demand the least space?

Re: What went wrong?
Thanks Callalily for replying. Since they molt with their adomen in the shell, does it mean the abdomen doesn't shed any exoskeleton? My substrate is about 6 inch. Maybe my definition of jumbo might be wrong. The big ones are slightly less than 2 inch and the medium ones are .75 inch diameter (if yo...

Re: What went wrong?
Hi, Thanks for your reply . I stay in tropical Singapore, where hermit crabs can be found on the beaches. Yes I think the tank is undersized but as I stay in an apartment I cannot afford the space. I made levels for my crabitat and limit it to 5 crabs. Sadly the guy is dead. I suspect it's an attack...

What went wrong?
Hi all, I have a 10 gallon tank with 5 crabs. 3 medium ruggies and 2 jumbo strawberries. For the past weeks 2 ruggies and one straw went under. The other straw keeps digging the surface. Yesterday, I found an empty shell of my ruggie on the surface. I dug around and found light orange limps, BP arou...

Re: Pet shop with hermit crabs(Let me hear ur opinions)
In Singapore, this is one of the best setups I have seen so far.
I have seen shops put all the crabs in a small pail without sand and with about half inch of water

Re: Is my crabitat correct?
Hi, I happen to see your post and I am also from Singapore. Where did you get your crabs from? If you got them from Polyart a few weeks back, I am very certain its Indo due to the big claw and the black eye stalks. I guess the government agency is not able to distinguish between these species so you...
