Size Differences

Hey everybody! Recently one of my two crabs passed away after being attacked by my other during molting. This meant my larger crab, Cthulhu, was on his own. The schedule was not in our favor so he was by himself for about 2 months because we were in the middle of moving, then several trips. During t...

Ignored Hermit Crabs

Hey everybody. Long story short, I was gone for about 2 months and left a "friend" in charge of my two purple pinchers... one medium, one small. She had several lessons on how to care for them and such and I thought she was going to take care of them. Now I'm home for good and I find out they haven'...

Re: Eating sand...?

I think it's normal for crabs to eat the sand and i use flukers and hermit crab patch sand mixed with some coco fiber as well. As far as i know the crabs so eat some of the sub i don't think that's not normal. How did you get roaches of that happened to me I'd prob pay someone to clean the tank as ...

Eating sand...?

Hi all! I recently did a deep cleaning of my tank due to finding a few roaches in the substrate. I've used EcoEarth my entire crabbing career but a while ago I had ghats and mold... So I decided to try something new. I have the tank with half eco earth and half of the Flukers Crab Sand, a pre-mixed ...

Lonely Crab?

Hi everyone! I've had my two PP hermit crabs for about 5 months now. This is the first issue I've had. Like I said, I have 2. One ping-pong ball sized one (Cthulhu) and one smaller (Hermes). Hermes has already had a successful molt and Cthulhu has been down for a little less then two weeks. It was a...

Weird Molter

I've had my PPs for about 2 and a half months now. Love it! They are so interesting to watch. About a month and a half ago my smaller crab (I have two) began a molt. I was really happy, because he was very pale when I got him and was clearly in need of one. He came up today. I walked in and he was h...

Re: Traveling with the Hermit Crabs

I'll look into a humidifier, but one of my neighbors has volunteered to come in and check on them every day. Should be good. :)

Re: Traveling with the Hermit Crabs

My only problem with that is my tank isn't the best at keeping humidity. I spray it about twice a day, and if I don't it gets in the 60s. Is there a way to increase that? Moss really isn't working for me. :/ I have a glass hood so none should be getting out.

Traveling with the Hermit Crabs

Hello, I'll be gone for a little less then a week for Thanksgiving. I couldn't find anyone to take care of them, so I'm going to take them with me. We live in Florida so it isn't cold, and I was gonna bring my spare UTH in a 8 gallon tote. I have two crabs. It would be set up just like there normal ...

Mold

So I've had my crabs about a week now. Everything has been going great! The humidity and temperature is steady and the crabs are active. 2 days ago my crab Hermes buried and hasn't been up at all. I'm pretty sure he's molting. My other crab isn't bothering him and it's all good. However, today I gen...

Re: PPS Stress or Molting?

One more question! :) When should I have the light on? I have a heater so heat isn't an issue. Right now I've been leaving in on during the day until I go to bed, around 10:00. Then I turn it back on around 8:00 or so (I'm homeschooled so I can sleep in a little!), and spray the tank down. I spray i...

Re: PPS Stress or Molting?

It is amazing to see someone your age care so much. Remember that a bigger tank will need a bigger heat source. (I always forgot that! Lol) Also there is a WORLD of food options out there. Return the pelleted food. There are actually ingredients in there that are harmful. You can feed them bits of ...

Re: PPS Stress or Molting?

A tank that small is not a safe home for your babies. Without enough room they cannot molt safely. If you need a cheap starter tank a 10gal would work for a little while since you only have 2 crabs. Your substrate needs to be at least 3x the height of your biggest crab or 6 inches, whichever is mor...

PPS Stress or Molting?

Hello everyone! :) New crab owner here! I have a small-ish and a medium Purple Pinscher in a 5 gallon tall tank with a heater. I've been researching and preparing for the crabs for a while and today was the day! I went to my local pet store and picked them out. The tank wasn't the best, but it was b...
