Re: Found Crab Dead; Others Acting Weird

I noticed you said that the one broke apart. Did the front part fall off while there was still crab left in the shell?

Re: New crab-missing big claw

I'm waiting for hcp, too, since my big guy is right at the size where it's going to get tough find bigger shells for him

Re: New crab-missing big claw

Since they're different sizes you shouldn't have to worry about shell fights. I found a nice bag of shells at Jo-Ann Fabrics that had a lot of green turbos in it. My big guy needs shells with an opening over 1 1/8", so only one even close for him but I had lots of options for the little guy up to ab...

Re: fresh molted crab. tips of legs way longer than before?

Maybe next molt he'll fill them out width-wise to match the length, kind of like an awkward teenage phase?

Re: New crab-missing big claw

It certainly makes them easy to tell apart! Except for yesterday when the little guy decided to try on a shell that matched the big guy's. I have no idea how he managed to lug the thing around!

Re: fresh molted crab. weird legs?

They normally have a claw and two large legs on each side, plus multiple smaller ones further back on their body. Maybe he was missing some legs before?

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160701/94c6e77bf61f9e2699fd4dabedc8987d.jpg These are my two crabs and they do great together. I only separated them when the larger one surface molted. When I put them back together the little one shadowed him and sat on him a lot the first few days! My big one wa...

Re: baby hermit crabs

There are several accounts of attempts to raise hermit crabs in captivity, some with success, in the health and breeding section of the forum. It's not an easy undertaking!

Re: I don't know what to do!

Dropping legs is never a good thing and dropping all does not look good at all for him. But, let's make sure that the conditions the crabs are living in are good for the health and well-being of the other crabs. I'll see if I can get it on my phone, but there's a form in the stickied post with quest...

Re: Missing claws

Make sure you're feeding protein, too. I don't see where you've given them a protein option the last couple of days.

He is fortunate to be the smallest crab because the others shouldn't be likely to try to take his shell for him while he's defenceless.

Re: Missing claws

It does appear to me that he is eating. Normally they use their claws, especially the smaller one, to break/tear up food and pick it up. They then pass it to a smaller pair of limbs which bring the food to their mouth. It looks like he's using his legs to help guide the food to where the smaller lim...

Re: Stuck in shell?!

Mama Kelly Yes he was in a painted shell... I will never forget that day it was so sad, she quickly took him away and said they would check him when they bathed them that night! Re: Fan lowering humidity

In Walmart they are by the light bulbs, extension cords, that sort of stuff. I think there's a model that's even less expensive than this one. It would cost more for one for a grounded plug. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Woods-50001-Woods-3-Conductor-Indoor-Mechanical-24-Hour-Timer-for-Lamps-and-Applian...
