Re: Isopods Babies

I love seeing manju around! It's like an exciting surprise when you move certain toys or decorations and there's lots of little babies underneath.

Ooooh no, what cute pictures! Almost makes me miss when our cats needed to be bottle fed. Almost. Kittens are so sweet!

Re: What is your dream pet to own?

I would like....all the crabs. Specifically, I'd like to have a whole room someday with my hermies in one large area, and then separate areas for fiddler crabs, vampire crabs, and soapdish crabs. I'd also like to take a crack at keeping blue crabs (like the ones people eat!) too! For right now, thou...

Re: Crabs Ignore Moss Pits

I kept doing moss pits for ages, but my crabs preferred to just sit in the mist from the airstones instead....now that I have a willow tunnel just stuffed with moss down on the sub, I find my biggest two crabs in there almost constantly! Not so much the little crabs, though? Crabs are weird.

Re: Moss pit + hermit garden

I don't know if chia seeds would grow, but when I put my millet spray near the pools they sprout (and promptly get chomped down!). I think a small tray/pot/etc that you can plant and grow chia outside of the tank and then set inside would work better for what you're thinking. Otherwise all the sprou...

Re: DIY Planning - Installing a light inside the tank

More a worry of the UV radiation they get? I'm reading that as "It's more important for them to get UVA/UVB then to fuss over the heat of the light". Am I understanding that correctly?

DIY Planning - Installing a light inside the tank

I'm at a complete loss here, so I figured I'd ask in here if anyone has experience with mounting fluorescent lights inside of a tank. I've been planning on upgrading my crabs from their current tank to the 55 gallon that I have, and part of that plan included putting a T5 UVB light inside the tank, ...

Look How Far We've Come

When I first started with this tank I had, well.... http://i.imgur.com/thV1qQn.jpg http://i.imgur.com/9JAVMvP.jpg This. It was a good start! Fresh and saltwater, properly prime'd, a rotating food menu, a UTH on the side of the tank, lots of sand.... After (a lot of) research, time, and general effor...

Re: OR, WA, ID, ND, SD, WY, MT, NE Adopters

VANCOUVER, WA How Far Can You Travel?: Depends on the timing - I’d be willing to go up to Olympia, if it's winter, and I regularly go down to the Portland, OR area. Talk with me and I’ll meet you halfway. If it's summer I'd spring for shipping instead, I've had good success shipping crabs in the pa...

Re: Show me your fabulous crabitats!

Michael's crafts! It's one big, hideously long strand that I folded in on itself to make a "curtain" of green for them. The display in the store wrapped it around a branch of driftwood, which I would definitely have tried if I had a stick that long.

Re: 30 G Tank - First Build

Thank you, Blue! I love to get creative with the names of pets who won't learn them anyway. So much freedom! And Aussie - I absolutely named them after DNA. Hopefully, if I get more crabs, I can follow the theme! And ah, yeah, I'll keep that in mind! The screen has some pretty wide holes - too small...

Can someone help me ID these lads?

After watching one of my crabs crawl around, I figured out she's a PP. The other two crabs, though, dug down and haven't shown up topside since I got them! I have a few photos of them from day 1, but I can't tell what species they are for sure. This is all I have, but hopefully someone might be able...

Re: Show me your fabulous crabitats!

I don't have much, but I don't have many crabs either! My tank's a 29 gallon. http://i.imgur.com/xlqe68R.jpg That center part is hiding a rather large moss pit, actually! Two of three love to party in there. http://i.imgur.com/dWQagfg.jpg The towel's blocking the view, but on the right side I have a...

Re: 30 G Tank - First Build

Well, that did it. I ended up with three crabs! Semi-unplanned: a kid I babysit got them from a friend and was keeping them hidden under her bed. Her mother was...less than pleased, and planned to just toss them out, so I took them home. They're much bigger than what I planned on getting, so this we...
