Re: 5 pps needing rehoming in illinois

I just adopted some recently so wouldn't have the room to take in any more but you could try reaching out to the rescue I used!

they're called the northwest indiana hermit crab rescue. they might be able to meet you halfway. website is www.nwihermitcrabs.net

Re: Questions about lights and heating

ultratherms are good, you can get them from the Reptile Basics website. I'd recommend getting the largest one that will fit on the back of your tat. you'll want mount it on the back above or alongside the substrate line, never underneath. for lighting there are a ton of options. this forum has a hea...

Re: Using Only EcoEarth

I know there are crabbers who use only sand or only EE. the only downside I can think of is EE doesn't hold its shape well when the crabs tunnel but I'm not sure if that would make a difference in a temporary enclosure. it should hold humidity well though

Re: Can a rescued cannibal crab be "rehabilitated"?

poor guy, he must have been starved! I know larger and smaller crabs can cohabitate so I'd imagine be could eventually be introduced to yours. I'd wait to introduce them until you can be sure that any nutritional deficiencies he might have had have been resolved. Maybe until after he molts with you?...

Re: Recently rescued a crab

sounds like you are on the right track! Add some protein to his diet & keep up the good work! you can try some raw honey too, crabs love it & it can help them "heal" after being in poor conditions.

Re: Daphnia Cubes

Agree! Those look good. I honestly prefer offering things with a little added vitamins. They break down quickly in stored food when not purposefully added, and it helps create a more well rounded diet for the hermits. Awesome! Can't wait to see how they like them Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk

Daphnia Cubes

Does anyone know if these daphnia cubes are safe for crabs? Nothing on the ingredients list rings a bell for me so I figured I'd ask here. Any red flags? Image

Re: Cleaning Water Pools, Food Dishes, and Other Items???

I've read somewhere on here that as long as the final rinse is dechlor it's ok to wash things down with tap water. btw I switched to glazed ceramic food dishes recently & find the food doesn't stick to them nearly as much as what I was using before, so that night make your cleaning easier. Re: Live Mealworms

I've done it several times, usually one crab crawls in and double claws the entire bowl. Mealworms aren't much to worry about in a crab tank, they don't bury deep, they aren't known for going after live creatures, and they do very poorly in humidity as they are a desert species. ok, so they may act...
