I would just wait. You have the right stuff coming. The one from the garden supply doesn't say if it's been treated in any way, just make sure they have both types of water, heat and humidity, good things to eat and the calcium.

Re: Molting
How can you tell if he died? He was very social for the few days before he buried himself! I hate that I got them at a beach shop and they could have been half dead already!! I just hope he’s ok!! So he will come back up in his shell and may stay in that one or may switch? How will I know if he’s d...

Re: Can you make crabs more active?
If you black out the tank, you won't be able to see them anyway. Messing with something's circadian rhythm generally causes problems of some sort, I know, worked nights for years. Nocturnal is what they are. Wild caught each and every one of them is. They are at the bottom of the food chain. Trying ...

Re: Question about Fake Plants
I have plastic tropical plant, it's been in there about 2 years now and they haven't destroyed it. Looks rather good still. I think it was with the reptile stuff at Petco.

Re: Wattage for a UTH question
Good Morning! I was checking Amazon for a UTH because the only petstore actually in my city is Petland and their prices are super high! Amazon has a plethora of mats.. however they range in wattage. I didn't know if it made a difference or if their was a "best" one. Thanks! Ultratherm. Bean Farm an...

Re: Oil diffuser for humidity (without oil of course)
Diffusers don't really put out much and most are going to lower the temperature. Plus, it's going to get destroyed. Not going to hold up to what a crab can do to it

Re: Hermit crabs don't like fresh food
Mine generally prefer dry. They will eat a bit of bell pepper, wild strawberry (I've got it all over), little slivers of raw meat, pork and chicken being preferred. I don't go out of my way to give them fresh. A bit of what we're having is what I do. We have corn, they get a kernal, before I cook it...

Re: crab switching shells frequently
Completely normal, it's like trying on shoes. Must find the right fit. I've had a crab that changed into every shell I had put in, one after another.

Re: Hosta Leaves
Hostas have Saponins and are considered toxic to animals. I would assume that would include crabs.

Re: To hot?
Was the only thing I could think of that wouldn't lower the humidity too much, that is dangerous as well. My crabitat generally stays at 84-86.

Re: To hot?
Fill a small container a little over halfway, freeze it, stick it in a corner. That would give them a cooler area they can move to if they want. Those little containers with lids you would use for lunch boxes would work. Or maybe a water bottle. Something with a lid so it doesn't spill out when they...

Re: Burlap for second level.
I have no experience with burlap in a crabatate, but I'm thinking long term it may not hold up well. That said, the only experience I do have with it is gardening and it's lucky to last a season. Will be interesting to see how long it lasts.

I have 1 PP and 1 E. They've been alone, together for at least 2 years now without any problems.

Yay. Mine didn't take that long, but it's such a relief to get the last painted shell out.
