Re: Molting E in Bacterial Bloom & Lost Limbs

Eddie the E is surely a trooper! Thanks, we have been really trying to get him back into shape. As long as he has the will to keep fighting we will be there to help him. It's funny you say he is a trooper. Eddie is named after Iron Maiden's mascot and The Trooper is one of their most popular songs!...

Re: Substrate mixing question

We get plain old 50 lb bags of play sand from the hardware store. $5 or less usually. It a lot cheaper. Since my last post we stopped measuring all together. The ratio is what you and your crabs prefer. Some do just sand, others plain EE. The 5:1 mix is what most resembles beach sand. The same with ...

Re: Plexiglass lids

My plexi lid also bowed for half of my 75 G. It is 16 x 22 x 3/16. It also has a 6.5" round hole cut into the center. That is so my UVB can shine directly into the tank so it isn't filtered. I had it made at a local glass shop and it was around $30. A glass top for both sides was around $50 I think....

It's amazing how many different shades purples can be. They should be called rainbow crabs!

Re: Molting E in Bacterial Bloom & Lost Limbs

An update on Eddie after he decided to go skinny dipping. It was very frustrating trying to reshell him in the original shell. He fought me every step of the way. Eddie kept his abdomen currled so he wouldn't fit. He also put his leg down at the opening so even he started in he wouldn't go any furth...

Re: Molting E in Bacterial Bloom & Lost Limbs

He's going to go back in the small critter keeper tonight. I think that may have been the issue. I don't think he can move on top of normal substrate. He was in the same spot from when I put him there this morning. Pretty much like a car in mud. Only one wheel spinning won't move the car. I think wi...

Re: Molting E in Bacterial Bloom & Lost Limbs

I'm a bit worried now. I placed Eddie in the fresh water before feeding today. He crawled out of his shell. I got him reshelled easily by putting his tail at the opening and he crawled back in. Less than 30 seconds later he crawled back out. I started to reshell him the second time but was fighting ...

Re: Molting E in Bacterial Bloom & Lost Limbs

Thanks again for everyone's help Eddie and I really appreciate it! I set Eddie up in the 10 G without the critter keeper. I placed him on top of some moist moss near the center of the tank. Within a 3-4 inch crawl he has a coconut hide, two food dishes, fresh and salt water. Depending on his movemen...

Re: Molting E in Bacterial Bloom & Lost Limbs

Thanks for the quick response. Eddie hasn't been moving in his ISO much. Maybe spinning 180 degrees not really crawling. I still don't think he eats in the ISO. I'm assuming he is getting water from the moss in with him. It sounds like I should wait a few more days before making a hole. Maybe I shou...

Re: Molting E in Bacterial Bloom & Lost Limbs

Day 22 caring for Eddie. For the last 2-3 days he hasn't been as active moving around or eating like he has been. He mostly just sits there, taking a few bites. He seems to enjoy the waters more too. From everything I read it sounds like Eddie is getting ready to molt soon. Even though I read the at...

Re: Water Cabanas!

Well after three week of on and off work I finally finished the cabanas. I could have added more stones to the lower outer pools but did not want this to stretch out any longer getting them done. I put them in the tank late last night but did not see any crabs in the cabanas just yet. I did see one ...

Re: Molting E in Bacterial Bloom & Lost Limbs

That's what I was thinking too. Who wants to taste all of a meal in one bite all of the time. I ground up Eddie's mixes to make it easier for him to eat since he is missing both claws.

Re: Molting E in Bacterial Bloom & Lost Limbs

I was always concerned about mixing everything together and having finer things settle to the bottom. Like if you had a leafy mix and added egg powder. All the powder would settle and they would be getting just leaves. They won't be getting a balanced mix of everything that feeding. Then I got think...

Re: Molting E in Bacterial Bloom & Lost Limbs

That cap was a great idea. How does he get around in his tank? Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk I am using crab mesh on the bottom of his ISO instead of sand or Eco Earth. That way he can grip that and move around. Usually he doesn't move around much in the ISO. Most of the time he will be in t...
