Re: Large shell... small crab.

Every individual crab has his/own preference when it comes to shells. As long as they have a variety to choose from, they will be ok.

Re: Is it possible for a hermit crab to die in its shell and not fall out when picked up?

Yes, I had a crab die and stay wedged in his shell. It took a week for him to start smelling.

Re: What is everyone's nightly/weekly routine?

Daily routine..look for crabs. Look at foods and waters. Change when needed. All 4 tanks are different. Big/jumbo in the 55. Mediums in the 30, babies in the 29 and Es in the 20 tall. Check heat and humidity.
Calciums/proteins always plentiful!

Re: Humidity Issues

Be careful with misting, you don't to flood your tank or get a bacterial bloom.

Re: Humidity Issues

I have a humidifier running in the room that my tanks are in. My heat is very dry too. Do you have moss on your tank? That helps with humidity too. If you wet it, but not to where it's dripping, and put it by the tank heater, that will help some.

Re: Dried Seaweed

We got purple seaweed at Petco in the fish area. Looks like Nori, but it's purple. They like the red too.

Re: Broke down and pity purchased

My husband and I have both pity purchased. Most, if not all ended up dying. But at least we know that they died being loved instead just left for dead in the store. It breaks our hearts to see them suffer and we want to save them all, but we know we can't.

Re: Dried Seaweed

Ours like Nori. It's what you wrap sushi with. It's cheap and you get a lot.

Re: How should I introduce a new crab?

Isolation is necessary in some cases, but crabbies are social creatures and we try no to keep them isolated longer than necessary. It all varies from crab to crab. They are all different, just like humans. You can't predict what they are going to do. Just observe them and learn their individual pers...

Re: How should I introduce a new crab?

From my experience, this is a controversial topic. My husband and I dip them briefly in salt water so they all smell the same, hence, Les chance of fighting. It has worked perfectly for us and we have never had problems. We rescue and adopt a lot and that's what we do. Others do not agree at all wit...

They will come up when they are ready. I've had crabs down for months. Don't dig, just be patient
