Re: Recently rescued a crab

So I thought I'd post an update and ask a question... After having last been seen on 8/29 (and no signs at all of him coming up) Moe *finally* resurfaced this morning after 11 weeks being under!! I legitimately shouted to my husband and kids, "OMG - he's alive!!!" when I saw him out and about. He'd...

Re: How am i supposed to clean my substrate if all of them are buried?

A bunch of fruit flies come into the tank over the summer because I put in fruits and veggies for the crabs. It is now gonna be winter and theyre still there because the weather in the tank is kind of warm amd humid like summer. They are laying eggs and growing in the substrate. I dont think they a...

Re: New to the hermie world

Thanks guys! Yes. I agree my 5.5 tank is too small. As I stated I want to move them to a bigger take (20gallon) but the buggers won’t come out. Haha. That’s my only problem as of now. Haha. I found a locate pet store that employees a girl who has several hermit crabs. She has helped me a lot. While...

Re: New to the hermie world

Welcome! As Pebbles said your tank is too small. Even a 10 gallon is too small for four. Sounds like you're on track with the other stuff. It takes alot of patience caring for hermit crabs. Sometimes they can all be down at the same time and you're left with pet sand. Just never dig for them.

Yes. It was the only way to keep the heat up and steady.
Did the sub dry out? I remember having trouble keeping it warm but I used Zoomed.

I used an 11x11 Flukers UTH (same design as an Ultratherm) on the back of my 10 and it got it to 82 degrees, but I keep my room chilly in winter.
Ok. Thanks. I assume you covered the entire back including the substrate.

Re: Smallest ultratherm

Bean Farm has a 6x17. With only having 4" to heat I'm wondering if the 6x17 could be too much for such a small area. Especially considering warm air rises. Sorry if I made it more complicated. Just thinking out loud on here. https://beanfarm.com/collections/heating/products/ultratherm-heat-pads-6-x...

Smallest ultratherm

I'm giving my 10 gallon tank to a friend that just purchased 3 crabs on vacation. I'm also giving her some other extra supplies I have. Once there are 6 inches of substrate, it leaves 4 inches of empty space. That gives the dimensions 4"×19" for a heater. There are no ultratherms close to that size....

Re: Crab escaped, found empty shell...

Thanks for all the water advice, many great points made that we hadn't fully considered. We've since been treating all the water as suggested =). Safe to say now the crisis is over! =D. Both Hermie and Crabbie are doing well, together at last. Both have changed shells now, Hermie twice, and they're...

Re: My rescued crab

Welcome! Personally, I don't think that would have made a difference. Considering the treatment and conditions they had before you got them. If they succumb to anything at this point, I would say its PPS. Post purchase syndrome. If they haven't come up at night for several days I would say they're m...

Re: Crab burried shell and all

We got two new crab friends for our 1st hermit crab. The first night, one of the new ones buried himself shell and all. Is he molting or getting ready to molt? or just hiding? You won 't know until he comes up. They dig to molt, cool off, hide/sleep, fun and just because. Just never dig for them. U...

Do the buried shells count as available shells? Lol
