Re: Digging

It seems that no one is addressing the dry sand. Other than adding some water. But if it's as bone dry as you think that may not be enough. I would think that would be considered close to an emergency. I'm not experienced enough to suggest digging him up. Hopefully someone else will address it.

Re: What are your crabs up to?

You have to watch to the end. Here's the dialogue:

"Here, let me help. I've got you.... I've got you... let go, I have you.... hmmm... maybe if I get on the other side, hold on, uhhh... that's not gonna work. Just let go. I have you."

"I thought you had me!!!"

They never leave their shell to molt. They "slip out" of their exo.

Re: Molting crab under water bowl.

How deep and what kind of substrate do you have? I use zoo med reptibark per the instruction of the associate at petsmart. It’s about 3 inches deep Your humidity definitely needs to be higher than 70%. What did you cover it with? Saran Wrap will keep humidity in. I have a wire top on it and some pl...

Re: Covers for your Tank.

That's plexi glass, right? No need to cut holes in it. They get enough air when you feed them every couple of days. Do you have a gauge for temp and humidity?

Re: Crab with molting crab?

I use Eco Earth currently, but I dont have much in at the moment (oops, entirely my fault.). Its only really enough to just cover my Aunt's Largest crab, though I will be adding more to it soon enough. Thanks for the help! You can add up to an inch of sand every 24hrs if there are crabs down. Just ...

Re: What type of water should I mist the tank with?

Hello We are new to the hermit carb world. I have been using the bottle hermit carb freshwater and saltwater for our two hermit carb’s drinking “ponds”. My question is what should I use to mist the tank and keep the bedding moist? The people at Petsmart told me to use our regular bottled water. Wel...

There are 3 climbing logs in the picture but they are laying down. How should I orient them?

The temp/humidity monitor (digital) is arriving today
You can lean them up against the side. If no one is under you can dig it into the sand a bit.

Re: New Owner - Started completely wrong!

It looks great! I would say at this point the only thing you need to add is something to climb on. They love to climb. And where is your thermometer/hygrometer? That is a must to know the temp and humidity. Digital is best and can be found at Lowes for about $12. Walmart may have them too.

Re: Crab tank heat

The sand needs to be sandcastle consistancy otherwise it won't hold their tunnels and caves. The heaters should cover the entire back of the tank from the top of the sunstrate to the top of the tank. You can also insulate the rest of the tank by covering cardboard with tin foil, shiny side out, and ...
