Re: Hermit crab help please

Be careful of too much misting. It can create a flood. If your sub is sandcastle consistancy and your pools deep enough for them to fully submerge, you shouldn't have to mist. You can add damp moss to help with humidity. Also air bubblers in the pools.

Re: Small molter under for 4 months

It was almost 6 months since I had seen June Bug, so I decided to dig for her a couple of weeks ago. I found 10 shells, and a coconut hut that had went missing. One of the shells had very very tiny pieces of crab left in it that came out when I rinsed them. So poor June Bug either died during the m...

I try to wipe up as much as I can with a wet paper towel and throw that out.

Re: Hermit crab help please

Welcome! You've gotten great advice here so far. If any of your crabs bury themselves, never dig them up. If they are in the middle of molting, digging them up could be fatal. If any of those painted shells are empty, remove them. They are toxic. You can order extra shells on etsy, ebay, amazon and ...

Re: Hermit Crab Socialization Article

That's really interesting. So our larger crabs will change less often it see.s. which is good, because those shells are expensive.

So cute!

When you said, "look food, yum!" I wonder if your crabby was thinking he's getting food, or he's gonna be food LOL.

Re: Is my crab dying? ):

It sounds like you're doing everything right. I would cut out the ham and sausage. Sausage already has seasonings in it. And ham is very salty and may have preservatives. Do you give them calcium everyday? Give her some honey. That might boost her energy. Bee pollen.

Re: Can I have a crabitat without lid/cover?

I would say you need a lid. Tubs come with lids. Not only will there be no humidity, but they can climb out.

Re: A Few questions...new here

The correct consistancy of the substrate is what helps the tank stay humid. Usually the sand in the bag is moist to begin with. It needs to be sandcastle consistancy. If it's dry, it needs to be moistened with dechlor fresh or dechlor salt water.
