Phew thank you!! So far he’s ignoring it and digging around, but I was worried he’d pick at it. Glad to know it’s safe if it does pick at it.

Did I make a mistake?
Tonight I redid my hermit crabs tank and added a faux vine made of PU with a wire in the middle and a coconut hut. It’s sold as a climbing vine and hit for for bearded dragons. I’m second guessing if this the vine safe for him. Do I need to remove it ASAP? https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B08RYYSW16?p...

Crab almost escaping
Woke this morning to our crab 1/2 way out of the tank! There’s a big hole in the lid, I had it covered with a small container but he was pushing it up. He tightened his grip when I tried to coax him to climb down... so I put a can on top of the container & taped it to the wall (he was still there wh...

Spinning wheel w/ suction cups?
I upgraded my crabbie’s tank today to a 16 gallon glass tank. I was hoping to attach a spinning hamster wheel to the side of the tank so as to save floor space. Has anyone found a way to attach a spinning wheel to the glass side via suction cups etc? I saw one post showing someone hung a wheel upsid...

Re: Tank bloom, new tank glass issue
Update: He’s settling into the new tank. So far he’s eaten & checked out both water dishes, but hasn’t ventured to the upper levels yet (been a few hours). The temp & humidity is a bit wonky still... AcuRite digital humidity & temp gauge says 87% humidity and 78 degrees F. Temp is set for 79 with a ...

Re: Tank bloom, new tank glass issue
Thank you for the fast reply! I plan to change the whole tank out in the morning. It was green (algae right?) and then while waiting for the new tank and substrate a red area popped up, but yesterday it started looking darker so I think it’s turned into a bloom. It’s all bad, I know, I’ve been a bad...

Re: Tank bloom, new tank glass issue
I already know what conditions I need to fix that caused the bloom, got a new UTH for the back of the tank & a thermostat so I can control temp better, etc. and I’ll keep the shade down [emoji28]. Our crab is healthy but I know I need to get him out of the yucky tank ASAP Sent from my iPhone using T...

Tank bloom, new tank glass issue
Hi! My crabs tank developed an algae bloom (due to too high humidity plus having the shade open next to the tank a lot that we usually keep closed), so I thought it’d be a good time to upgrade to the tank I’ve been wanting for 2 years [emoji51] It’s a 16 gallon Fluval, bowed front, with a plastic li...

Re: Uth without insulation?
I’ve found that the substrate needs to be sprayed down & mixed to maintain the sandcastle consistency in the areas closest to the heaters. I it is Hydor, a slim one. I was told it could be used outside of water as a uth but that could be wrong and why I’ve had problems with them! 2 stupid mistakes [...

Re: Uth without insulation?
Would it be possible to do one without insulation? Te back one is very close to the wall and I’d like to leave an air gap. I think cardboard & foil would make it touch the wall. Also, I noticed you said ABOVE the substrate [emoji15] I have always had them below the substrate line (outside of tank). ...

Uth without insulation?
I’ve tried reading through old posts & the sticky but am overwhelmed sorting through the information. I have a 16 gallon tank and two Hydro 15w heaters made for 10 gallons. The heaters are on one side & back of the tank. These heaters keep the tank at 79-83 steadily, but the heaters plastic outer sh...

Great thank you!CrabbyLover77 wrote:You can certainly change the ratio if you're worried about weight. The 5:1 ratio is just a guideline. [emoji4]

Re: Brand for small amount of sand?
Wow I didn’t realize! I was planning to do 2/3ee 1/3 sand because i worry about the weight of the tank.
Is that bad? I saw on another thread that it’s ok go change the ratio... or is that controversial?

Re: Crabitat garden?
Tall as in leggy? If they're leggy I'm figuring out they need more light for "long term" success (not really possible with hungry crabs  ) looked up the requirements for chia and they need full sun, if someone wanted to get technical, but I think most people grow it as a crab snack so take it ...
