I think we have successfully molted for the first time!
I have posted on here the last few weeks. I am a fairly new accidental crab owner (about 7 weeks now). I have 2 purple pinchers. the bigger one went under about 3ish weeks ago. I made the mistake of digging her up and she had molted. Then I made the mistake of covering her back up again. On Friday, ...

I think my crab might be molting!
I am a newish crab owner - about 6 weeks now. I have 2 and they both went under the substrate over a week ago. Before that only one was under and the other was roaming around up top. The one that went under first...I think I saw her last night. I was replacing the food and I saw a little tunnel dug,...

Re: 2 crabs buried in substrate - have no idea what is going
Thank you! Answers below: 1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it? Flukers' All Natural Premium Sand Substrate Mixture for Hermit Crabs. At its deepest it is about 6-7 inches. That is on one side of the tank. It then slopes going down to the other side of the tank where I h...

2 crabs buried in substrate - have no idea what is going on
I am still newish at this - about 6 weeks now. The tank has a good set up - heat and humidity well controlled, climbing things, moss, etc. I change the food out every night and use healthy fresh stuff. I change out there pools every few days. Plenty of shells to choose from as well. At first both cr...

Re: Help - did I do something wrong?
I carefully dug in the area where I placed the glass bottle and no crabs. I have no idea where they are and have not seen them in a week!

Help - did I do something wrong?
I thought about putting this in the emergency folder, but it is not a true emergency like most of the other posts, I am just worried I did something wrong! I am a relatively new crabber - 5 weeks now. I finally have the tank set up all nice. Lots of mixed substrate, 2 water pools with bubblers, clim...

Re: Crabitat - issues with adding light
Yes, you get it at craft stores. They all have it. I started out with that but then decided to switch. I made two ladders using wooden dowels and rope. The ladders lay in the water dishes and snake out and lay on top of the substrate - if that makes sense. I don't know if it is a wood long term solu...

Re: Where can I get a glass top?
I ordered and received a hinged glass lid from amazon.com and got it yesterday. It fits fairly well. There is a small gap along the back but I am ok with that so that my bubbler lines can feed in without getting squashed. I am monitoring humidity but so far so good - it seems to be maintaining aroun...

Re: Crabitat - issues with adding light
Ok great, this all makes sense. I got the water bubbler last night and set it up. At first it did not make bubbles so I fiddled a bit with the lines and got it working. But I have a question: the lines snake up the top to the outside of the tank. How do you prevent them from getting squashed by the ...

Adding Substrate - What if they are Buried?
This is probably a silly question but I am a relatively new crabber - just over a month. The substrate in my 20 gallon tank is slanted. At the lowest end it is about an inch (the height of the water pools) and at the highest end is about 4 inches, maybe 5. I would like to get it up to 6 inches on th...

Re: Crabitat - issues with adding light
The pictures really help. Where you have the zip ties - did you poke a hole in the container to get it through to the other side? Also, can you explain why you double up on the containers? Have a single container for each - freshwater and saltwater. I have small pebbles/rocks under each at one end o...

Where can I get a glass top?
I have a 20 gallon glass terrarium/aquarium. It came with a mess top which works great for getting in there and changing food often but I am having trouble maintaining humidity. I have a plexi on top but it does not fit snug. Where can I get a glass top for it that fits snug?
