Cuddly crabs!!!

Who says crabs won’t cuddle? I know not everyone interacts with their crabs as I do, but Princess is truly friendly and sweet, and she is growing to trust me. She put herself here and stayed there for a few minutes. Maybe for warmth, but still, she could’ve chosen elsewhere.... Princess comes out fo...

Post Molt questions

Post Molt Questions: This little crab buried himself the 2nd day I had him. He was buried shallow in a 10 gallon tank in about 3 inches of hermit crab sand and EE unmixed. (it had 2 others in it that I moved out into a 20 gallon.) I added an inch a day until it had about 6 inches in it. He came out...

What are your crabs up to?

I love seeing all the videos of the silly crabs! They’re always funny to me. Let’s see- all my big ones are being lazy, my E tank is slow right now bc they’re about half digging in the sub, and big PP Barry down for her first molt w me. Poor Gene is her tiny PP sidekick and is so lost without her to...

Re: Need Home for Strawberry ASAP

I’m the happy adopter who got the others, and would love to get this guy back with the rest of his crew, but may need some help with transport if anybody is willing to donate an hour or two of your time to pass it off along the route- it’s a 5 hr drive to get there for me and I unfortunately can’t d...

Re: Pesticide Spray

I would say wrapping it for about a day is a totally reasonable and less stressful approach, and so long as the house is shut up and no air intakes running etc it should be ok. Or as ok as that can ever be when forced upon us. IMO, someone else may know more about it that I don’t. Best of luck! Dave...

Crab can't get down after climbing on ceiling

Nah, they go where they want to, and will plop themselves down on sand or even water to break the fall (sometimes.) Others they just let fly, but they really can’t get high enough in most tanks to sustain that type of injury. Point is, crabs are climbers, stubborn and relentless if they want to be i...

Re: Indonesian

My Indo was given to me. His previous owner had a lot of exotics and decided to get out of the hermit crab hobby. She only had one Indo though. I do wish he had a gf! Edit: I haven't officially sexed him yet, I just assumed it is a male! I probably should look! One of these days! Awww! I haven’t se...

It does count as an animal protein for humans, if I’m remembering right! So yes and no I suppose! I’m so helpful. [emoji38]

Re: Stubborn E

Yes! That crazy E literally folded himself up in order to somehow wedge the shell back on! That was too funny RiNiKy! I remember that but I’m not sure I still have it but I know you sent me a clip! I have 1/5 Es that have changed shells, all my others are still in their original shells, still waitin...

Re: 7 crabs molting

I have 7 PP and they are all molting right now. The last one just went down about a day ago. Is that okay or is something wrong? Do I continue to switch their food every other day? The 1st one went down about a month ago and the rest have followed. My crabitat is so boring right now. [emoji26] The ...

Something wrong/on joints of adopted crab?

I'm seeing normal wear and tear. Especially in this type of shell, their legs will rub against the inside and the opening every time they come in and out. Doing so will remove color over time until their next molt, and if they do it when still soft from a molt it can get almost a rug burn appearanc...

I was lucky enough to adopt my pretty guy, and it really is incredibly rare for any store to have them. As I understand it, some exotic pet shops will get them in either on their own or specifically for someone occasionally, which is where my guy cane from originally. I am having a very hard time fi...

They look like PP to me. Your lighter one reminds me of my Dave, he’s about that shade as well, even freshly molted. [emoji16] Congrats on the adoptees!

Crabs aren't digging

Most of us use basic playsand, it’s less than $5/50lb of sand. The quickrete is filtered so it is all uniform and will mix smoothly, this is why you are seeing the dust as all the particles are going to be more fine grit. I have a pic of what I use. Hang on and I’ll share! Dave the Wondercrab~Pat~Ma...
