Re: Re-New to Crabbing!

Just try not to spook him. However, if he does happen to take a tumble, he'll probably be fine. I've walked in on my crabs, and had them tumble because they retracted in their shell when they saw me. They've always been ok. They're tougher than they look lol! [emoji4] Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus us...

Re: Hermit crab appears to be molting under prosthetic log has exoskeleton hanging out of shell firmly.

I'll post my suggestions under your answers. Hope it helps! 1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it? I use store bought sand and eco earth mixed. It is approx. 15cm deep. CL77- Is it moistened with dechlor fresh or marine salt water to sand castle constancy? 2. Do you have ...

Re: Defective thermostat for uth

It depends on the model and how much you want to spend. I use Herpstats which claim to be accurate to within 0.9 degree. Their cheapest one is also $140. (And they have a lot of other bells and whistles that made it the right choice for me.) Other brands that are very basic are not going to be that...

Re: Defective thermostat for uth

I guess I should have read the description better. Just found that it says "Note: the controller is designed to have a 2-3 degree buffering zone before powering on again after reaching set temperature". Is this a normal thing for all thermostats? If so, I'll just keep the one I have and set the temp...

Re: insulating tank

Defective thermostat for uth

I just bought a thermostat for my new uth. It arrived from Amazon Friday. I first noticed that I would set the temp to 78°F, and it wouldn't click on even though the temp read 77°. Today I had it at 78° again. I went back to check a few hours later and the temp on the thermostat read 76.2°, but the ...

Re: Keeping heat during winter?

Ok, I was just trying to see what size uth you'd need and if the price was cheap enough. I have a 55 gal tank, appx 48"x13"x21". My substrate is about 10" high, so that's why I bought the 6"x47" mat.

Re: new heater

Actually, if you plug the uth into a power strip, you can just hit the power strip on and off instead of plug and unplugging the uth.

Darn. [emoji3525] You'll have to monitor the temps and plug and unplug when necessary. I paid about $19 for mine. It got good reviews, but I must have just got a dud.

Re: new heater

i have the tank insulated (ultratherm and reflectix) and without the heater the room is like 60° and it’s currently 80° in the tank so how long should i keep the heater plugged in for? Do you have a thermostat hooked to the uth? You can set the desired temp on the thermostat, say 80°, and the therm...

Re: Keeping heat during winter?

So here in North Carolina, the weather can be EXTREMELY unpredictable. Just last week, the temperature was probably 85-95, but suddenly over the weekend that changed to 55-65. This has taken the temperature in my crabitat from about 84 degrees to 74 degrees, and my parents won't let me raise the te...

Re: insulating tank

i just set up my heater like ten minutes ago thank you[emoji16] i used my ultratherm with reflectix I hope you had an easier time than I did. There really wasn't a way to get behind my tank. I had to use a 2 step step stool and lean over the top of the tank. I must have pulled a muscle because my n...

Re: insulating tank

The thermostat will just keep your tank from going over a certain degree that you set. I personally love them. Here in Florida it gets really hot, so that is why I like using them. :) Oops, I said so it can overheat, def meant so it can't overheat lol. GB- Does your thermostat sometimes shut off a ...

Re: insulating tank

I just installed my Ultratherm last night. I bought the 6"x47". I bought a big role of duct tape on Amazon to go with it. Duct taped the heck out of the mat (on the edges around the corners and sides). Then I took aluminum foil and placed big pieces over the mat and duct taped them. I skipped the ca...
