Re: New tank smells like gas
Def don't put them in the tank if there are still gas fumes coming from it. Not only could the fumes be toxic to the crabs, it could be toxic for you to breathe it in, in an enclosed room (like a bedroom). I know you cleaned it, but maybe you could leave it outside for a few days too and let some fr...

Re: Cutting egg crate insulation
Yw. [emoji846] Yes, the pieces will def ping pong around like Wodes said. I gate myself off in my pet room away from my dogs so they don't try to grab the sharp plastic pieces.

Re: Cutting egg crate insulation
I use a couple of tools. This one is more heavy duty and a little more awkward, but works: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00002N5KQ?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title I also use a sharp pair of small little wire cutters (I think that's what they are). You could prolly even use a pair of hand pruner...

Re: Im shopping for a new tank!
Hi there! I'd recommend a 29 gal for you. A 20 gal long is 30"x12"x12" (LxWxH). That gives you more floor space than a 20 gal high would. However, the Long tank is a bit short imo (I used to have one) if you want to have climbing decor/space. A 29 gal is the exact same floor space as a 20 gal long, ...

Re: Less Active
There's not always a smell, but if she's loose and not hanging on, she probably has passed away. I'm sorry. If I suspect one of my crabs has passed, I iso them in a small container in the main crabitat, and let them sit for 24 hours. It just makes me feel more confident that they have passed if I ca...

Re: Less Active
Usually a dead crab will fall out of the shell. This looks like she may be blocking the entrance with her legs/claw. The mold could be on trapped food stuck in there. Is she tight in her shell? Or falling out? I'm sorry I don't remember what you said, does she smell at all? Sent from my Moto G (5) P...

Re: Suitable yarn for hermit crabs
No specific brands, just whatever says it's 100% or natural jute/hemp. I've found hemp is much easier to crochet with than jute.Pagoo wrote: Are there any specific brands that you use?

I've used jute twine and hemp to crochet items for my crabbies. [emoji846]

Re: Food
Thanks for clarifying about fresh millet Wodes. I was only thinking of the kind for birds that's already dry. [emoji846]

Re: Food
Millet is already dry, so no need to dehydrate it. I would think it would burn if you tried it.
