Re: Naked, pale, thin crab, yikes.

Well that didn’t last long. He’s out of the shell again already. Any suggestions? Is something wrong with him? I’m gonna try to put him in the smaller container with just shells like before but don’t know if the same thing will just happen again.

Re: Naked, pale, thin crab, yikes.

Okay good to know, that’s kind of what I thought, but I’ll try to do it more regularly. Yeah he gets the shrimp almost every time. I don’t usually have the right types of other protein on hand, like unseasoned cooked chicken. Any other suggestions? Just took him out of “shell isolation” because he d...

Naked, pale, thin crab, yikes.

1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it? Play sand and Eco earth mix (idk the exact ratio, but maybe 2/3 play sand and 1/3 Eco earth). It's 6 inches or half full basically (10 gallon tank). 2. Do you have gauges in the tank to measure temperature and humidity? If so, where ...

Play sand from Home Depot was already wet

So I decided it was time to replace my crab’s substrate yesterday. I want to Home Depot for the tried and true play sand. I think I ended up with a different brand than I’ve had before, but the sand was already moist. Knowing it was play sand and supposed to be safe, I didn’t worry too much about it...

Worried about molt that has been reallllly long

So I've had my 2 hermit crabs (Philippe and Houdini) for about 6 months now, and both of them had a successful molt back when I first got them. Houdini has been doing great ever since, and seems to have no issues. He's very active, and does all the normal hermit crab things. However, Philippe has be...

Very short molt

I have 2 crabs that I've had since June. They are pretty small (idk how to describe, except that the shell sizes they like have about a 7/8" opening), so a little smaller than a golf ball I suppose. They started molting about a week after I first got them, one of them (the one in question today--Hou...

Crab found “in the wild.”

Hi everyone, not the typical emergency, hence why I haven’t filled out the emergency form. I have a friend living in Florida who found a hermit crab in a parking lot near where they live. She told me she was planning on taking him back to the beach there, but I wasn’t sure it would be safe for him o...

Re: Shell issues

Update: shortly after posting this, Red did change into a slightly smaller shell, and seems okay with it. We will see. I hope I didn't stress him too much.

Shell issues

Hey everyone! I have 2 small-ish crabs that I've had for about 2 months now. This is my second time with crabs, and I've felt a lot more confident about their care now. Both of my crabs unfortunately came in painted shells, and I've given them plenty of natural shells to change into. One of them cha...

Crabs like to take their food down into their tunnels??

So my crabs have lately been bringing all of their food down into their elaborate tunnel system to eat it. They seem to not prefer eating it above ground, so they take it away to chow down, I guess. My only concern is that the food isn't going to get eaten all the way and won't deteriorate in ...

Should I add a crab friend?

Hi all! I currently have 2 small-ish (ping pong ball size-ish) crabs in a 10 gallon tank. I am wondering if it would be a bad idea to add a third one, or if I'd need a bigger tank. I just know that crabs like friends and my 2 have seemed a little lonely lately.

Thanks!!
