Re: Do hamster wheels have to be plastic?

Ok so as soon as I posted this, I opened the wyze cam app and my adopted crab went right to the wheel, then came out, then back in and has been in there 'walking/spinning' since my previous post. That was quick! Now going to feel bad if I have to take it out. 😂😂🤣

Re: Do hamster wheels have to be plastic?

Sorry for jumping back in on this thread, but I purchased the silent spinner with, I'm assuming, the white coated metal. I've been messing around in the tank, but have one molter down and was changing too much. After messing with command hooks, etc. I found a spot to just sit it on the substrate usi...

Re: Recommendations from other groups?

Wow. Thank you all for the replies. Wanted to go through each one, but seems redundant. After just jumping in to hermit crab obsession, I was interested in any deviations in care from other respected groups just for informational purposes. I had posted about the dry substrate after having bacterial ...

Re: Recommendations from other groups?

Interesting. Definitely am unaware of the history going back more than knowing that this forum was updated/upgraded from the previous one. Thank you for the information! I'd guess that you are 100% correct that as groups split/formed their own websites/forums/etc that the primary care advice is like...

Re: Recommendations from other groups?

Thanks for the info. I have read that many Facebook groups are super strict and have just avoided them hence my reasoning for the post here. I am glad that this forum is open to having discussions on these things so just stumbled into the right place! I would have difficulty reading incorrect advice...

Recommendations from other groups?

Just a quick introduction: I am a Registered Nurse and happened to bring home two hermit crabs from vacation. I, of course, received terrible guidelines for their care and have corrected everything to HCA standards with both plus one adopted crab in a 20 gallon long. This was an upgrade from their o...

Re: Crabs not growing

I'm a little confused. On the crabs that you are concerned about have they just recently molted? Or have they molted multiple times with you? After a molt a crab may actually appear smaller until growing a bit from previous "shell/exo" and will take a bit to appear larger, but crabs can't really gro...

Re: Bacterial Bloom?

You can check the crabitat conditions section for my latest thread and recent bacterial blooms if you'd like. I would get a spoon and dig down in a corner where the crabs aren't. Just one scoop at a time until you get completely to the bottom. Smell each scoop of sub. If you get to the bottom and sm...

Re: Crab Taming?

Interesting. I'll keep an eye on this thread if you decide to try this out with a few of your crabs. I have three and my original two will always reach out when picked up which isn't often typically. On the other hand, my adopted guy refuses to come out at all when picked up. If picked up and placed...

Crabs are funny people. He might just feel safe there. Are your temp and humidity good? Do you have deep enough sub?
This has been my favorite quote since I found this site...

Re: Crab escaped, found empty shell...

Just to add on the water... I had used bottled Aquafina water with EE right after bought my crabs from boardwalk and reading here which my one had successfully molted in for a little over 4 weeks. Was trying to give them something with temp/humidity/sub after reading the care guides here and I reali...

Re: Should I be worried?

Actually, your Post is what had me worried. I’ve been following your “nightmare” the past few days and I think that’s what made me take a closer look at my tanks. When I saw the wetness I immediately thought the worse and started to panic (there are 4 crabs down right now). I did smell the knife th...

Re: Should I be worried?

If you've seen my one post, there was a weird darkish green line that turned out to be a bacterial bloom from me keeping the sub far too moist. I also had a ten gallon that was about the same (far too moist), but no visible signs of a bacterial bloom although there definitely was one. I would defini...

Re: Death Smell... now what?

What a week of events. Had to move the tank and, unfortunately, I have yet to see the one that buried so will be watching the wyze off and on tonight hoping to see all 3. Heaters finally plugged back in and I gave them a boiled egg and grapes which usually brings em all out esp with the dried food t...
