What should I do? Possible tunnel collapse??

Hi there, so I’m a bit worried on what to do with my hermit crab. To make a long story short I haven’t been able to be at my house for about 2-3 weeks because of some serious personal stuff. He’s had been under for about a week or two before I left and now I’m briefly back for a few days and he’s st...

Re: Can hermit crabs get scared by their bubbler?

Where do you have your air pump? Crabs are sensitive to vibration. The vibration from the pump may be scaring them if it is sitting next to the tank. Having the pump on the floor or away from the tank may keep the vibrations down. Another issue may be how intense the air stones are bubbling. You ca...

Re: What kinds of salts are okay for hermies?

Hi! Sea salt is on the safe food list, so if you added that to the salmon, that would be ok. Or you could just try giving them some salmon plain (no butter, oils, etc) to see if they like it that way. My crabs aren't much for fresh foods, but love eggs! They enjoy scrambled eggs and the yolks from ...

Live Plants?

I was wondering what kind of plants I could put in my crabitat? I thought plants that would be good for crabbies to eat would be nice, but I'm not sure which ones would be best... any ideas?

What kinds of salts are okay for hermies?

Hi! So I often make shiozake (salted salmon) for my family at home and was wondering if it would be okay to make a hermit crab version? Normally shiozake calls for coating it in saké (neutralizes fishy smell) and then liberally sprinkling with salt and keeping it in the fridge a couple days. I would...

Re: Hermit crab surrounding itself with shells, and not moving.

Just an update to this! Soon after I posted this he actually went down for a molt, and while he was down I got him a new 10 gal tank and he seems pretty happy in it! Ive got 6 inches of substrate in there and lots of things for him to climb on. Ive also changed his diet to fresh fruit, veggies, and ...

Can hermit crabs get scared by their bubbler?

Hi! So recently I redid my tank setup for my hermit crab “Lobster” and I added in some larger pools. I thought I would upgrade the tank and add in some bubblers, and after a while of fiddling with tubes and airstones, I got it finished. Now its been about a week since I changed everything and Ive no...
