Cora Is Lethargic
Hi, I am worried about my crab. She is not moving when I mist the tank anymore. I read in a book that that is a sign of an unhealthy crab. She is lethargic. Never seen her act this way. Hopefully this is just a sign of a molting crab? FYI I have seen her moving. But she withdraws into her shell when...

Re: Tank Placement
Yes, it runs the length of almost the whole wall. She is currently sitting in the tiny section where there is no baseboard. Right before where it begins.curlysister wrote: ↑Wed Sep 13, 2023 10:43 pmDoes the baseboard heater run the whole length of the wall? Or can you have the tank situated where there is no heater?

There were followup questions asked! And it was never removed or deleted https://hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=126&t=127506&p=1125607#p1125607 I’m actually a bit miffed because I posted this out of passion/frustration…and they won’t let me delete it. They also took down my other p...

Post Disappeared?
Hi, About a week ago or so, I posted with a question about the placement of my hermit crab’s tank. I am concerned about placing her against the (only) available stretch of living room wall…due to the heating baseboards. I included a photo of the area where I plan to place her. No replies. No record ...

Tank Placement
Hi, I have a question about tank placement. I just moved into a somewhat spacious apartment. My hermit crab (and betta fish tank) are placed against the only available wall in the living room. However, this happens to be where the heating baseboard is. Their tanks are elevated on tables. Is this any...

Can’t Find Proper Shell Size
:crabblush: Hello fellow crabbies. I need to purchase some shells for my hermit crab. She has not changed shells in a good long while. Last time I spent a fortune on a bunch of new shells for her, none of them were the right size and I got so busy with life this issue simply went by the wayside. Any...

Mites
Hello all, :cheer: Unfortunately, I noticed that my little crabby Cora has little tan mites rapidly crawling around her food dish. I consider this rather strange as I frequently changed her substrate up until recently (which I now know is an outdated practice). I almost wonder if it was from her foo...

Re: Cleaning The Crabitat
Hello! Doing a thorough cleaning of crabitats is an old technique no one really does anymore. some of us never change the substrate unless we have a bacterial bloom or flood. We do not have a dedicated careguide for cleaning items. There is always a possibility of mold inside of a crabitat due to t...

Cleaning The Crabitat
Hello fellow crab owners, I have a question. I have to do my crab’s crabitat and I need to get it nice and clean. I haven’t changed the substrate in a little bit. I want to eliminate the possibility of mold. I usually just rinse out the crabitat with water but I wanted to know if I could use dawn so...

Re: External Power Source! Need One Quick. Power Outages.
All good suggestions. Thank you :cheer: My family live across from me and they have a generator. No one used to ever hook it up, but last year they were better about having someone actually come over and help us turn it on! I think they will use the generator this year, and I can always bring the cr...

External Power Source! Need One Quick. Power Outages.
:crabblush: Hey, I have found myself in a bit of a pickle. I live in an area where the snow is very heavy. We often have power outages and they often last for days. It also gets very cold where I live. I have been meaning to buy some type of external power source...Maybe something that is chargeable...

Re: A Couple Of Crabby Questions
That salt will not be toxic or harmful. It just does not have all the minerals needed long term. I mix up my Instant Ocean 2 cups at a time (2 cups dechlor water with 1 Tablespoon IO). If your pool is smaller than that, you can keep it to use later. Your crab will be fine alone for a while. Many cr...
