Re: LiveHermitCrabs.com
LHC does/did have Aussies. Several people here at the HCA got them from her. I got some from her a year ago. Other people/companies have imported Aussies to the US before her, as well.

Re: Crabitat Smells Bad
If you have minor areas where it's too wet you can get a few of those small, compressed coco fiber bricks that look like hockey pucks. Doing your best to avoid any crabs underground, dig a narrow pit straight down to the bottom glass and insert the pucks in the wet places and fill the holes back in....

Re: Life spans
landlubber has said she had hers for 7, which is the longest lived straws I've ever heard of. 5 to 6 among expert keepers is considered excellent, although we have two members now (kuza and sugarselections) who have reached 6 years with their straws still alive (to my knowledge), and crabbymom33 ha...

No problem with putting the Magnaturals over a heating pad. I've had that arrangement going for quite a while and everything is good.aussieJJDude wrote: - Magnaturals: can they be placed on top of a UTH? I was worried about the magnets interfering with the UTH...

Re: Mice
For Lark's tumor we've tried a few different things to try to keep her comfortable. Now I'm giving her a dose of Celebrex daily. It's helping, but we may need to raise the dosage.

Re: Mice
Sorry to hear about Twix's tumor. One of my sugar gliders has a large tumor in her abdomen that we've been treating for a while. Her vet and I decided against surgery so we're managing it with anti-inflammatory and pain medications. It's not fun:(

Re: 2 rescued Leopard Geckos and a redone Critter Room :)
I love Butler! His face is just the cutest thing ever. Do they have to have crickets as part of a healthy diet? That's what has always deterred me in the past.

My other species were done by early August but my indo just released her eggs about a week ago.
Re: Mites!!!
My instinct immediately said rug, but I can't be 100% positive without a good frontal picture. Her anatomy, quality of color, and the look of her under-eye smudges seem more like a rug than an E to me.

Re: Long Overdue Pictures
I don't have the setup for raising hermit crab babies. I've had females of various species with eggs over the years but I never try to raise them.

Your straw makes me want to cry because of how GORGEOUS he/she is! Holy cow! I want an exotic sooooo bad but I live in Texas and all the research I've been doing on where to get a blueberry or a viola, even an indo hasnt gone so great. I have two straws and both are females. The one pictured here i...

Re: Long Overdue Pictures
Hmm; this sounds like my usual aussie behaviour... Wonder if it is an aussie thing? Having had just one aussie for so long, I've always wondered if her behavior was typical for the species. I've had the four new aussies for about two months now and they all do seem very similar to Darwin in most wa...

Re: Long Overdue Pictures
Wow; your aussies look better than mine - not to mention the tank it's self! I'm so happy that you got Darwin some species buddies; how she enjoying the company? The new aussies now look much better than I ever expected. They were in pretty rough shape with some damaged and missing limbs when I got...

Just realized I meant to post an updated picture of the crabitat in the this thread but forgot about it. Here's one from today plus some more Aussie cuteness. 101-ish gallon terrarium crabitat http://i62.tinypic.com/wamvsx.jpg Darwin trying to quickly back out of the photo http://i58.tinypic.com/2rw...

Re: Long Overdue Pictures
Love the "Parent Trap" pic -- just like looking in a mirror  ! The Aussies are simply beautiful, the best pics I've ever seen of the species. Thanks for sharing. Hopefully I'll have more pictures to post of the Aussies in the future. Right now I'm trying not to stress out the four new Aussies ...
