Re: Pale blue E
With Es, it may actually be UVB related. I think it was sugarselections who had an E stay blue through several molts, and the only difference was she was using UVB lighting. As adults though they will turn into tans and reds. I've pretty much given up on determining why crabs display certain colors...

Re: Sugar Glider: good pets?
They actually do tend to smell a little sweet. Most of the staple diets developed for sugar gliders include a significant amount of honey to approximate the nectar they eat in the wild. I think they often have a tiny bit of a honey smell. Also, gliders are pretty fanatical groomers of themselves and...

Re: Sugar Glider: good pets?
I just sent you a very long email about gliders and will be happy to help in any way I can. I've owned gliders for over 9 years and love them but they are a huge commitment. My avatar is my 9 y/o old boy, Nocturne. He's a dollbaby but also a major brat. The term "sugar bears" is used by certain mill...

Re: DIY second levels + nets
If you're near a Hobby Lobby or Michaels, both carry fish nets (about 3'x5') for $6. These are genuine used fish nets, are therefore smelly and have a bit of debris on them so a good boil is in order. I crocheted a small climbing net but love the large fish net as it can be cut into pieces to drape...

Re: Crabitat inspiration
Yep, that was my old 90 gallon. I find pictures of my crabitats all over the place by accident. A lot of them on Pinterest. I also find pictures of my sugar glider enclosure and my gliders all over. I've always gotten lots of inspiration from looking at other people's builds and decor so I'm always ...

Re: Post pics of 100+ gallon tanks!!
I was inspired by a terrarium video I found on YouTube. I ended up modifying my original plan quite a bit to suit the crabs and the materials I had to work with, but I'm very happy with it.

Re: Straw (perlatus) over 5 years?
I don't think I'm doing anything too different. Up until recently my straws were kept in a 90 gallon and now they're in a 101 gallon. In both cases, I've always kept all my species together.

Re: Zilla Dessert Walnut Blend for Hermit Crabs?
I've looked into the walnut bedding but haven't tried it. I do think functionally it would be very similar to coco fiber and the crabs would probably love to eat it. To avoid the mold issue it would probably be a good idea to the the initial moistening with salt water. (I initially expand my coco fi...

Re: Straw (perlatus) over 5 years?
It's not a sub issue. I keep my straws on 100% coco fiber (always have) and I have one at nearly 5 years and one at over 3. Although I have lost some straws along the way, I've always had pretty good luck with them as a species.

Re: Merry Christmas to me...not.
If he was naked near the water and his body doesn't show any major trauma he probably wasn't attacked. My guess would be he went down for a possible molt, realized something was wrong, and tried to make it to the water dishes. He was probably so weak he lost his shell in the process. Hermit crabs ar...
