Sometimes Sam's Club carries them, as well as Wal-Mart.

I personally like them better than regular potatoes too, so I can imagine your hermies found them to be a treat!

Make sure it doesn't stay constantly wet, such as in a background that touches the substrate. It so, it will mold very quickly.

So far I have never refrigerated any water and have not had any problems.

They will be fine and actually probably doing better since hermit crabs love to have company. Depending on the size of your tank you may be able to add a couple more to it.

You could get a bigger and heavier dish, maybe that way he will leave it alone...
