Did anybody see the readings I posted yesterday? Not sure that it helps in this case, since I don't have aussies, but it gives us a baseline to compare aussie readings to, if someone else can get them. Just measured the specific gravity of perlatus and clypeatus shell water with a refractometer, kee...

Just measured the specific gravity of perlatus and clypeatus shell water with a refractometer, keep in mind, these measurements were just taken from one member of each species: 1.028 and 1.025 respectively. So, there is a definite difference. I tried to also get a compressus reading, however only ha...

Nice looking unit! So far I have been very fortunate as our house only varies a few degrees during a 24 hr period. Therefore, so does the hermit crab tank. I am using the ultratherm pad for heating and am very happy with it. I have insulation as well as aquarium background behind mine and have not h...

Very interesting and it makes sense. Thanks for clarifying! I will add more sand to my tank soon. especially since I have the four straws in there now, I know they live closer to the beach in nature anyway. I do want to get some indos soon, and after your posting, I have made up my mind to get them ...

I have a question about the substrate ratio. I am always looking for ways to improve the crabitat. However, this substrate ratio puzzles me. Different species of C. live in different areas, some hardly ever see the ocean, except to deposit their eggs for example. Different areas have different subst...

Looks like mold, saltwater deposits would look more solid, not fuzzy.
I would try just moving the surface around a little bit, that way you don't disturb any potential molters, which will be further down.
You could take a small rake and rake the surface daily.
See if that does the trick.

Is it really mold, or maybe saltwater deposits from misting?

I say get it, if you have the money. I am all for making everything as easy as possible. It helps if you travel for example and someone else has to watch your herms. If everything is automated, it will be a lot easier to find someone to watch them for you. Here are links to the pics of my contraptio...

If your humidity is that stable, I am not sure that I would even get a misting system. Mine was great at first, because the EE was still moist from soaking it before I set the tank up. Now it is starting to dry out, so the humidity is decreasing... Can't wait to get the shelf today so everything can...

I actually just got done rigging my old humidifier up again... In the morning I will go to the hardware store and get longer tubing and a shelf to put everything on. When I get it all hooked up, I will post pics. I looked at reviews of different mister systems and decided to save the money. I cleane...

I do have the 90 g set up. At this time I am not using anything but a spray bottle to occasionally spray the tank. I wanted to get everything settled and then see what the humidity stays at. At first the levels were great, but now I can already see that I will have to do something. It is not as bad ...
