You might want to give it a boil to clean it and sanitize it first, but yeah, I've got the same netting in use in my tank. It might smell a bit odd when moist, but the crabs love to climb around and hang out on it!

Cats and dogs have completely different physiology than a crab, though. There are many plants that are toxic to one creature, but harmless to another. Like grapes - no problems to a human, but one grape can kill a cat. Or raw soybeans - humans can't eat them, but they're perfectly healthy for cattle...

Giggies is wearing that kind of shell, and has been in it for almost a month. I caught him in a turbo the other day, but he was back in that brown shell within 10 minutes. Odd little crabs, aren't they? :hlol:

Why are they always boys?!

With the newest additions to the tank being more boys, I am forced to ask the question - What gender are your hermit crabs? Out of 17 crabs, only three of mine are girls (Echo, Sierra, and Tsunami). That means I have 14 boys! Even the Es are all boys! Are there more male hermit crabs harvested, or d...

I like Raid products, just because they're compact delivery devices. http://www.killsbugsdead.com/icp_ant.asp The ant baits are peanut butter scented, so if you have other pets you have to make sure they can't get to it! I found that stuffed behind the tank stand my cats couldn't get to it, and also...

I put an ant bait behind the tank and so far they seem more interested in that than climbing up into the tank. :)

When working with water, always check to make sure it's just a bit off of level. I have a horrible time judging pitch by eye, but they make very nice little levels that will squeeze into tight places! http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1vZ61bay/R-100353828/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051...

Someone just posted this on craiglist: http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/for/1621011187.html "My 17-year old hermit crab recently died and I have many supplies. New gravel, 3 types of food, shells, coral, and choya wood. Also, care manuals, if needed (and tips on how to keep a hermit crab for many ye...

Any places to get plexi-glass "seconds"?

I'm still planning the monster display-case conversion! I'm trying to come up with a cost effective way of sealing everything up. After working with plexi for the 15G, I'm thinking that if I just line all the wood with plexi and seal the joints with silicone it would work great. I'm just wondering i...

Hey Wodesorel, I went to the butcher at a local grocery store and the shrimp they have...they are previously frozen and frozen in a brine. I didnt go for it because I wasnt sure if that brine was made with iodized salt or not. I managed to find some fresh shrimp without additives at my local grocer...

Chicken liver thats a good idea freezing it and then shaving off as you need it...whats the recommended daily portion? I put maybe 3/4 teaspoon in every few days, and when I had 10 crabs up and running around it would disappear by morning. There seriously wasn't even any residue left in the shell.

For protein, mine go nuts for raw chicken liver and raw shrimp. The liver I just roll up in plastic wrap and freeze, then I can shave off what I need as I need it. (If I give them modest amounts they'll lick the dish clean overnight. :) ) The shrimp I cut into meal-size pieces and froze. If you're g...

I've pretty much made mine a staple for my land hermit crabs, though I am fortunate I can get them relatively cheap here in LA (for about $99 each). I crack mine using the guide and then shatter it further - I then give pieces to eat (both the meat and the shell as the fibers also have nutritional ...
