Re: Small molter under for 4 months

Hmmm....there probably isn't just one correct answer to this. If you are able to keep two tanks going, there is no harm in waiting. If the crab has passed away, digging won't help. Personally, I think six months is a fair time to wait and then dig.

Re: New hermit crab owner in need off advice

As long as your sub is deep enough, and your tank is not over crowded, crabs generally won't come across each other when down. They do move locations once they are under ground as well, so they might start close together but not stay there very long.

Re: New hermit crab owner in need off advice

Welcome to crabbing. Be sure to check out the 'care sheets' for all the info you'll need. And ask any questions you might have!

Yep, totally normal for them to hide or to bury themselves in the sand. Best not to disturb them when they are buried because they could be de-stressing or molting.

I would wonder if the gauge is off. You could try calibrating it to see if it's accurate or not?

Ultratherm are good mats. Or the ones that the Bean Farm sells.

Re: weiwd molting. .

Substrate is the sand and/ or coco fiber that you have for them to dig in.
Is she digging under the sand and staying there for a while? Or is she molting where you can see her?

Re: New crabs !

Anything else I can do to prepare the tank for when I go away in July for 6 days. I’m going to replace the water in the dish/moss put/ put tons of food in the dish. And pray the temperature and humidity is going to be ok. Of course I’m hoping that crabcake stays down and happy decides to go down to...

Re: Crab Streaking for 4th time

I am sorry to hear that he passed away. Were you able to gain any insight from the naked crab care sheet? It could be that your crab simply ran out of energy from previous sub-optimal conditions, like is the case with PPS. The only change I would make in your conditions is to use Instant Ocean inste...

Just to clarify a couple of things.
Is she under the substrate? And she has been for 5 months?

Re: Double up a heater

I would not, but I don't know if there is an 'official' recommendation from the manufacturer or if that's just me. I would measure the temp at the sub level where the heater is, as well as a few other locations in the tank. If the temp is fine, I would leave it. If not, I would just move it a bit lo...

My crabs have never been only nocturnal. They are out and about at various times of the day and the night.

Re: Cuttlebone question

Yes, that's exactly what you are looking for!
You can grind it up if you want, but many of us just stick the whole chunk in the sand. Like a surf board (or tomb stone according to MotorCrab!).
