Re: Flooded tank with molting crabs

Is the crab's exo hardened, or is she still soft? Was there any of her exo in the sand around her, or had she eaten it all? Is she moving around? Be sure that you have both salt and fresh water, as well as foods that are high in protein and calcium (many people give natural peanut butter, honey, etc...

Re: stands breaking

I had mine on an old coffee table, with spindly legs. When I added more substrate recently, I bought a home-made table made of 2x4's that will hold 200+ pounds. I didn't want to take any chances!

Re: Can someone please tell me what I did wrong?! Naked crab

Yep, I get my play sand at Home Depot for $7.99! I mix it 5:1 sand to Eco Earth (moisten the EE with water first), which I find keeps it's sand castle consistency really well.

Re: New hermit crab not moving at all?

I looked up that kit online, and watched the video. Please go to the 'care sheets, guides, and FAQ' section and read the info there. A few things that stood out from looking up the kit: I am not certain that the 'sand' in the kit is actually hermit crab safe, even tho it is called that. In any case,...

Re: Change hermies habitat? Or is it too late?

Definitely not too late! If you can get a good set up with deep moist substrate, your crab will most likely bury himself right away and might molt then. It would be much better for him to molt in the new set up. Like already mentioned, look in the 'care guide' section and do some reading, and get th...

Re: What are your crabs up to?

Sonny's up from his molt already. I heard Cher moving around under the sub last night, so am glad she's alive down there. It's funny how much longer she always takes to molt, since she's so much smaller.

Re: New hermit crab not moving at all?

Yep, give him some time.

Is your tank set up with the recommendations on this site - deep enough substrate, salt and fresh water (properly treated), good food, proper humidity and temperature?

Re: Can someone please tell me what I did wrong?! Naked crab

At the top of the 'emergency' section, there is a pinned topic called 'limp hermit crab? do not assume death'. It might have more info to help you. There are some things that can be better in your tank, but please know that many of us had no clue what we were doing when we started crabbing. Many of ...

Re: Painted shell question

I think most crabs will move to a natural shell pretty quickly when given the option. It's good that most of the crabs who are in painted shells are small, and the smaller shells aren't too expensive!

Very nice! Love all the greenery, I definitely need to get more for my tank! I presume there a lid on there so the hermies can't climb up and out, LOL.

Re: streaking hermit crab

I am sorry to hear he might have passed away. There are others with more experience who might be able to help more with the streaking part. But here are my initial thoughts: I am not familiar with the substrate - is it moist, sand castle consistency? You might want to increase the humidity a bit, ov...

Personally, I have always used RO water as my fresh water, and also mixed it with Instant Ocean as my salt water. I have never used any dechlorinator.

Re: Dry sub

Do you have your sand and EE mixed together? Some people find it easier to keep the substrate the right moisture/ consistency that way. When I am misting, I will often spray anything that is wood - not sure if there is any science behind that, but I figure if I moisten it a bit, then it won't have t...

Definitely leave her! Do not dig her up! Anytime mine have been against the glass like that, I have taped something over so it's dark for them.
