Re: Warm up tank help
If by 'late 70s' you mean the high 70s, that's fine for PP's. My tank is 78 right now. As stated, some kinds of UTH can be insulated over top. Otherwise, you can insulate the sides/ back where there is no UTH. And dont' under estimate putting a folded up blanket on the top of the tank. I have a plex...

Re: Out of town
Back in pre-covid times, I used to go on vacation for a week, three or four times a year. Be sure that your water dishes/ pools are full and can't be knocked over. Leave dried food - it will be moldy and fuzzy when you get back, but that won't affect your crabs at all.

If he was last above ground in February, he has only been underground for 3 months. That is totally normal.

Re: help crab tank caught on fire by heat pad
Where was the heating pad on the tank when it caught fire? What brand was it?
Keep your crab isolated until it is stronger. Handling it, allowing it to be out of the tank on your carpet will only stress it more.

Re: help crab tank caught on fire by heat pad
As stated, a naked crab will die without it's shell. You need to isolate your crab from any other crabs. Take a look at the 'naked crab' care sheet, it tells you how to go about trying to get a crab to take a shell. If he won't go in a shell on his own, you will need to manually re-shell him. Where ...

Re: Humidity HELP!!!
77 is perfect for temp, I think that's what my tank is right now.
And there really is no such thing as 'too high' of humidity. There can be more mold growth at higher humidities, but it will not harm your crabs. My tank is routinely over 90% humidity.

No need to bake or wash it. You can use it right from the bag.

Re: Can a crab die if a tunnel collapses?
It would depend on where the crab is in it's molting process. A crab may be too weak to dig itself out.

Re: Freshly Molted
No problem! Many of us got our crabs without really knowing how to care for them. It is very unfortunate that more pet stores don't give good advice. The 'basics' care sheet is a good place to start. Try not to be overwhelmed, and let us know if you have more questions. http://www.hermitcrabassociat...

Almonds, chia, and spinach are all safe. I'm not sure about turmeric.
