Re: How to make an iso within a tank

Cher came up from her molt today! And.....drum roll.....she has ALL her legs again! The 'new' one is a little smaller than the others, but it's a full healthy looking leg. I did add a cuttlebone while she was down, not sure that Sonny has done anything other than knock it over from being propped lik...

Re: Day and Night Heating

I try to keep my tank at the same temp night and day, or at least as close as I can get it.

Re: Help! Molting? I think dead?

I am not familiar with Strawberries, so I hope someone else who is can jump in too. Have you read through the info in the 'care sheets, guides, and FAQ' section? There is a LOT of really good info in there. How deep is your substrate? A few suggestions: -substrate needs to be at least 3x as deep as ...

Re: Can hermit crabs walk mid molt?

Did he molt on the surface? Or could you see him underneath? Perhaps filling in the Emergency template would help us answer your questions.

Re: New crabs

I agree with making the substrate deeper. Many of us use a mixture of 5 parts playsand to 1 part EE, it keeps the 'sandcastle' consistency well when moist. Have you read through the 'care sheets' section? Lots of good info there, as well as at the beginning of each of the sections (ie- crabitat cond...

Re: Wetting Substrate

Smaller amounts more frequently. Pour small amounts along the edges where the sand meets the tank, every day. A gallon is a huge amount of water to add at one time. What is your substrate, a mix of EE and sand?

Re: Molting problem or just playing around?

I agree with having NO electrical cords anywhere inside the tank. It's just asking for trouble when there are other ways to do it. You do not need a separate 'molting' tank. If you have a tank with enough space for the number of crabs you have, with deep enough substrate, and good conditions....then...

Re: Hermit Crabs in a Salt water Aquarium

Be sure to read through the care sheets and guides. Unfortunately, pet store staff aren't always that knowledgeable about proper hermit crab care - many people have been sold things that staff say are 'safe', but they really aren't.

Re: New to All of This and Have Questions!

Duct tape or electrical tape both work for taping heat mats onto the back/ side of tanks.

Many people often mix the playsand and EE in a 5:1 ratio, the coco fiber helps keep the moisture in the soil. Even then, with the heat, it is often necessary to add moisture now and then.

Re: Flooded tank with molting crabs

Is the crab's exo hardened, or is she still soft? Was there any of her exo in the sand around her, or had she eaten it all? Is she moving around? Be sure that you have both salt and fresh water, as well as foods that are high in protein and calcium (many people give natural peanut butter, honey, etc...
