Re: Questions About Feeding

I have ordered from the Hermit Crab Patch a number of times. The shipping for my most recent order was about 9.50 (shipped to North Dakota). I thought that was quite reasonable, and feeding both those foods and fresh foods, it lasts quite a while!

Re: How to make an iso within a tank

I don't have any idea why I have never given them a cuttlebone! Next time I am in the city where there is a pet store, I will get one!

I thought she might go down to molt and regrow the leg right away, but I guess she wants to take her time, LOL.

Thanks for the advice and help!

Re: Bad molt?

Is she active and eating/ drinking? If so, I wouldn't be too concerned about her color.

Re: How to make an iso within a tank

Update: I got back from vacation last night. As soon as I added the new substrate, Sonny buried himself and has not come back up. I left Cher out of iso while I was away, and she is doing well. She is still up and still missing the leg, but is moving around, eating and drinking, seems strong. The hu...

Months. Seriously, they can be down for weeks if not months at a time!

Re: Is my molting crab dead?

Unless there is a very compelling reason to think she is in danger (ie- a massive flood), I would wait. Try to keep the conditions optimal and wait and see. Time will tell, although it's hard to be patient!

Re: Move? Cover? or Leave Him Alone?

That's a pretty long time for absolutely no movement. I will defer to one of the more senior crabbers to answer whether to move him or not.
The heater can overlap the substrate - mine is about 3/4 above and 1/4 below, or maybe 2/3 - 1/3.

Re: Bad molt?

Did you dig her up from under the substrate? How long had she been down? In that last photo, it looks like she has little hairs on her legs, she might have been finished molting, or just down distressing or hanging out and not molting?

Cover the 'windows' so they can be in the dark down there.

Re: Molting crab getting disturbed?

I use a half-strength vinegar and water mix to wash out bowls when they are gross, then rinse them really well, with a final rinse with the RO water I use for them to drink.

Another thing that could help keep the peace is another hidey-hut, if you only have one. Then they could each have their own space to hide.

Re: Where to shop in/near Palm Springs, Cali

LOL, you forgot to add that PSP is an affluent resort town in the middle of nowhere, where everyone goes to bed by 9pm! Hahaha. I decided that I would order some stuff online, and have it delivered to where I am staying (I live in Canada, and shipping to the US is free or cheaper from the places I o...

Re: Bad day...

Oh dear! I am so sorry to read this sad news. I see you are a moderator, so probably know more than I do.....but was there any change in the tank that may have brought on the behaviour? Were there enough shells to choose from, and he just decided he wanted an occupied one? How long had it been since...

Re: Mold in crabitat

What do you mean 'replaced the water with salt water'? Your crabs will need to have access to both fresh (dechlorinated) water and salt water (dechlorinated water with product such as Instant Ocean, not table salt). Many people use a mixture of play sand and Eco Earth (5:1 ratio is most common) for ...
