Re: Burrowed under water dish

Many people us Rubbermaid type containers and double them up for this exact reason. Then when you lift out the top dish, anyone under the bottom dish isn't disturbed.

Re: MOLTING ISSUE?!?

A crab drops it's shell when it is too weak to carry it. A crab without a shell will not survive. Crabs also drop limbs when they are stressed and weak. I hate to say it but it does not sound good for your crab.

Re: Concerned

If I recall from another thread, the container with some rocks is her temporary holding bucket, and the crabs just go in there to get them out of the way when she is cleaning etc the main tank.

Re: Took other crabs shell while molting

If a crab came across another crab while it was molting and actually stole it's shell, the molting crab will not do well. If you are certain that the molting crab didn't change shells before it went down, and you have no other crabs under....you may consider digging for the crab. However, often a cr...

There is no way to fix them as far as I know. You will need to purchase a new one as soon as you are able to.

Re: Might have killed my hermit crab while in its molting phase

A crab will drop it's shell when it is too weak to carry it. A crab without a shell will not survive. Moving the crab like you did, did not kill it. It was probably a cumulation of stressors. If you copy and past the Emergency Template, and answer the questions, we can help you trouble shoot what mi...

Re: is this food safe??

It would probably depend on what is in the breadcrumbs. Is it labelled for hermit crabs, or for another animal?

Re: Up and out too early?

Please please please do not dig up your crabs. They know when to come up. Digging them up is stressful for them at best, and can be fatal at worst.

Re: New crabs and struggling to get this figured out

I still can't see the photos. I don't know about the fog, but eventually it can cause flooding if you are needing to use it that much. Are you using the light for heat? If so, you might consider a UTH mounted on the back or side instead. If your tank is in a room with natural light, you don't need i...

Re: Addition to the family

If you have deep enough substrate, and the tank is not over crowded, they will generally not dig each other up. Even tho the first crab dug down in one place, they often move and he is likely in a different location now. If the substrate is at least 3 times as deep as your largest crab, I would just...

I feed mostly organic, but of course sometimes what you need/ want isn't available or is too expensive. So some non-organic is fine.

Re: Full shell evacuation while molting

No, do not re-bury him with sub. If he's moving around, you will want to give him a small amount of both fresh and salt water (I have used bottle caps before), and some good foods. Crabs will move when they are underground, so you won't always know where they are. That's why it's best not to do any ...

When she digs, does she bury herself? How long does she stay under, before coming back up?
