Plastic canvas, also known as craft mesh. You can find it at crafting stores but also walmart usually has it.

Re: Antisocial or Upset?

Home now and saw your pictures. Wow! For a first tank, that is fabulous! As mentioned, depending on the size of your crabs, your substrate might need to be deeper - it should be at least three times as deep as your largest crab. I can't tell from the photo, but it should be moistened with dechlor wa...

Re: Antisocial or Upset?

I am at work and am unable to see your pics. But wanted to say that it is normal for crabs to vary in how active they are. They will still be recovering from the less than ideal conditions they were in, prior to you getting them. Lights in my crab room are often on past sunset too, and my crabs have...

Re: Naked Crab!

Your conditions do look just fine, nothing I can really recommend as far as that goes. Have you had a look at the care sheet about naked crabs? I would recommend having a look at that, and putting your crab with just a couple of shells and a couple mm dechlor water in the bottom of a container, so h...

Re: Another Recipie Highwires Seafood Buffet

am I doing something wrong here...?? Are you feeding your crabs just a powder? I feed them whole freeze dried crickets and small pieces of fruits and veggies. I figured they would be used to eating crickets (dead) in the wild?? You are not doing anything wrong! There is definitely more than one way...

Re: Complete diet mix for hermit crabs?

Agree with Wode. Crabs like variety. So even if you had a 'complete' mix, you should vary their diet. Like other species (and people) every meal every day does not need to be complete, it is more about making sure that they are getting a well rounded variety on an ongoing basis.

Re: Heat Problem

Your UTH should be mounted on the back or side of the tank. How big is it? If it does not have a sticky side, you can insulate over top of it. If it does have a sticky side, you can insulate around it. Have you done this already? You can also put a blanket on top of the lid. If you are upgrading to ...

Re: I think I collapsed a tunnel on a molting crab

Please see my replies below in bold. Pumpkincrab has given some information that is not accurate. 1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it? Sand/coconut mix, about 3 inches Curly - I see that you were going to add more substrate. It should be at least three times as deep as ...

1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it? Eco earth, 7 inches. 2. Do you have gauges in the tank to measure temperature and humidity? If so, where are they located and what temperature and humidity do they usually read? Yes, heat/humidity is 80/80. 3. Is a heat source used i...

If you can not maintain two tanks, you should not move any crabs over into another tank.
