Re: I guess its offical... an upgrade?

So when I do my new tat I'm thinking it would be sweet to have a couple live plants in there. Is bamboo safe? Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk Bamboo is safe, but it tends to grow too tall. Dwarf varieties are available, so consider trying to locate one of those which are likely to be more mana...

Re: Rearranging decor

Be wary of some rocks, as boiling can lead to them exploding due to being hollow - pressure builds up... I honestly just give a quick scrub under hot tap water, which the heat/chlorine combo kills most things! The good thing is that after a couple of minutes, the chlorine evaporates off. Sent from m...

Re: Saltwater Pool Upgrade! Crabmas in July

I'll spilt up your post into seperate parts to make it a little easier for me to ensure I'm replying to all area. ^_^ Thanks for all the help. I just changed out 80% or more of the water. I checked the levels before changing and we're still similar to yesterday with the nitrates and nitrites. You ma...

Re: Saltwater Pool Upgrade! Crabmas in July

Preforming a large waterchange will not impact the cycle. As you mentioned, the filter holds the majority of bacteria not the water column. So as long as its roughly the same salinity/temp (even then, temp isnt such a big deal for bacteria as long as it's not boiling) you should not impact your cycl...

Re: New hermit crab! What species is he?

That is a bit worrisome, as I have a few ruggies and I know that in the wild, brevimanus prey on ruggies. He seems a tad small for his species though! Sent from my SM-N960F using Tapatalk In the wild, crabs of all species are known to predate on eachother if given the chance. They opportunist scave...

Yeah. It's an indo. Really cute crab! Indos are one of my favs, they bit gentle giants.

Re: Ants killing my crabs

You really what to get all those ants - so that means substrate) out... if the queen is in the tank, you want her gone as well. Clean the tank out well, all decor either needs to be baked - wood for example - or throughly washed - shells, rocks, water/food dish, plastic decor. Anything that may harb...

Re: New Roomie for Longtime Loner: What to Watch For

Welcome to the board. Glad you could make the piunge! Did you dip them both in the same water to make them smell the same - or the new guy in the current freshwater pool in the crabitat so he smells the same as the older one. Honestly, it just sounds like your older one is just checking him out and ...

Re: New hermit crab! What species is he?

Doesnt look like a PP to me. The shape of the eyes and the big pincher (BP) is saying Indo (C. brevimanus). Can you get a few more shots of the crab (a major one would be tucked into the shell, and just general face, two sides and top).

Re: Pothos?

I'd just stick with EE, moistened in freshwater. Keep it contained in a small pot (or plastic yogurt/margerine/butter container) and let it do its thing.

Edit: that's a shame, I love my community aquariums.

Re: I guess its offical... an upgrade?

It looks like your background is holding up very well. One of those is still on my attempt to do list along with 50 other things! I still love the way this crabitat looks. Much more appealing to the eye than a tank with a piece of netting stuck to the back! I'm sure your crabs are loving it! Yeah. ...

Re: Saltwater Pool Upgrade! Crabmas in July

We noticed our first diver this morning! Mephistopheles has been hanging out pool side on the upper platform at the very top a lot. I saw him go down the first ramp partially a few times but never fully submerged. Last weekend I modified the ramps with plants zip tied to them for more gripping area...

Re: Pothos?

As a nitrate sink for plants (curious, what you have in there?)

Otherwise, yes it's fine. It may be a little limp at the start since its use to water all the time but in a couple of days it will adjust.
