The Fight for Calcium!

Not sure on the lilac. Usually its just the petals cuz most flower petals are edible but not always the other parts. Mine usually like boiled egg or scrambled no seasoning. I also buy dried food from the Hermit Crab Addiction store they like most of what I've gotten from there. Dried flowers they do...

The Fight for Calcium!

Hi, we wondered where you went. Have you looked at our food lists in the zoea forum they are broken down into different nutrients that our crabby babies need. If this is all your giving they aren't getting all the nutrients they need. Are you giving any egg with the egg shell? They may be trying to ...

Anbody heard from crabber85 in the last week?

Yeah even laurie is usually on but I haven't seen any post from her in about 2 weeks I think. It seems like this time last year it also was like a ghost town, must be something to do with summer. I may try to pop in every now and then but it won't be regularly like this month until sometime in August...

Anbody heard from crabber85 in the last week?

Hopefully it gets better soon.I hope someone else can step up to the plate for a while cuz after the end of the month I won't be on for a couple months. It seems like its just been keg and myself the last week...

Molting-having trouble shedding exoskeleton

Anytime after you mist the reading will be higher. Wait for awhile and recheck the humidity and it should stabilize back out and give a more accurate reading. Kinda like when it mists or rains outside the humidity is higher but if you wait a couple hours after it stops the humidity reads different. ...

Molting-having trouble shedding exoskeleton

Hve you read the different molting threads? They contain a lot of info.If memory serves correct they will usually eat and drink more then bury under the substrate (which in your tank is way too shallow and dry) so it couldn't bury then it will find the perfect spot to molt the molt itself only takes...

adding objects for big crab?

Yeah, its unusual for him not to post by now. Something must be going on where he isn't getting on here. Don't know if he's sick, having computer trouble, or what. He'll get on and post when he can i'm sure.

Molting-having trouble shedding exoskeleton

Some crabs even in good conditions have trouble with a molt every once in awhile. If the exo skeleton has hardened it is there until the next molt. Watch to see if its moving around ok if it is leave it alone. It will probably stock up on food and water then try to molt again fairly soon. If the leg...

New to hermit crabs and new here..

Welcome. Size shouldn't matter. There are a few of the members that have had such a size difference that the small ones could and would hitch a ride on the bigger ones shells.

Anbody heard from crabber85 in the last week?

I haven't seen any post from him, starting to get a little worried. Did he get to go on his little mini vacation? Or not feeling well? Or just lurking in the shadows waiting to pounce?

adding objects for big crab?

On the bowls I didn't mean not so deep I meant not so big/wide. I have several crabs and have never seen them try to get in the water at the same time. So instead of wasting space with wide bowls I use smaller deep bowls that don't take up as much room. On the gauges it would probably be best to ask...

questions involving water, humidity, and air circulation

quote:Originally posted by paperheartz: and is the fan nessesary or would just leaving the seran wrap half up be enough for air circulatoin? Not sure what you mean by this. You don't need a fan for circulation. And when you put in the bubble stones you'll have to have a gauge to measure the humidity...

Do you have any calcium in the tank for your crab? It may be "picking" at the shell trying to get little pieces to eat for calcium. Cuttlebone from the bird section of any pet area is a very cheap but good source for it. I take mine and shred or grate it into a powder like substance so its easier fo...

I'm a little surprised we're the only ones commenting on this. I figured it would start a buz with a few members anyway.

questions involving water, humidity, and air circulation

Airstones can be purchased separately. Not sure how long or if the stones would get clogged from the stress coat, basically just keep an eye on them every few weeks to see if they are putting out less bubbles. I don't think it will cause a problem with the light it should have enough room where the ...
