Re: The Elusive Normal...

yeah if you don't smell that nasty rotting fish smell i would assume he/she is just molting or destressing and resist the urge to dig him/her up. 68 isn't their ideal temp but i don't know if it's THAT cold. all animals are sensitive to weather events though, they were probably feeling stress from t...

Re: What's on today's menu & recipe sharing

 mine usually doesn't jump on the food when i put it in, he'll eventually go check it out but he doesn't like see it coming and run for it. except today when I threw in a maple leaf. i've never seen him do this... i wanted something to keep him occupied while i rearranged and cleaned up a bit a...

Re: What's on today's menu & recipe sharing

funny yesterday my mother in law was boiling chicken for soup so i got her to give me a little piece for the crab after it was cooked through but before she added seasonings. i figured he'd go nuts for it since he hasn't had it before. i also gave him a bit of almond butter that he loves so much, an...

Re: What's on today's menu & recipe sharing

cool thanks! yes I've already got 2 dishes going, one for dry food and one for wet, just so if something does go moody overnight the dry food isn't affected. I was wondering if he ever touches the dry food now that he's getting fresh stuff but today I saw him go back and forth between both dishes. I...

Re: What's on today's menu & recipe sharing

Spongebob has a nice little buffet tonight of celery leaves, carrot, almond, peanut butter and almond butter and some clementine and his usual dried mix and cuttlebone. i never see him at the cuttlebone i should crush some onto his fresh food to make sure he's getting it maybe. i don't eat bananas b...

Re: Pictures of my crabitats and my land hermit crabs

yeah it's always hard to judge the size of something in a photo. so they can pass each other side by side without issues? that's really cool

Re: Pictures of my crabitats and my land hermit crabs

I used to have hamsters and we had set up multiple cages with connecting tubes to give them lots of space etc, and it was fun to watch them running through the tubes. but as they grew bigger they would sometimes get stuck in the tubes if they met each other coming from opposite directions, neither w...

Re: Lighting Guide - For Heating and Viewing Your Crabitat

sounds about right. we do leave the light on 24/7 as is, he has plenty of room to bury himself away from the light if he gets too warm, we only have one crab so he has full run of the tank. the light was in the centre with foil on either side which was great for keeping in the heat but not doing muc...

Re: Guide to bugs in the crabitat 1.2

OK thanks I will have a look! I have been keeping a close eye on him and haven't seen any on him at all yet, they've just been in the food and on his log and rocks mostly. we also had a couple small spiders make homes in the tank lol. i live in the country, bugs are inevitable. hopefully they were t...

Re: Lighting Guide - For Heating and Viewing Your Crabitat

we have a clamp lamp with a black/blue bulb. we have just a wire mesh lid on the tank so the light is sitting right on top of the lid to one side with plastic wrap over the other side to hold in humidity. does this sound ok? it seems to keep the temperature pretty close to 80 during the day. at nigh...

Re: Guide to bugs in the crabitat 1.2

so since the mites we saw in our tank were in in the food and on the log and rocks etc and none were spotted on the crab itself, does this mean I probably had the harmless variety? I cleaned everything out anyway, I don't want them all over the car when we move haha
