I think a fish tank would be a better idea. Nobody is going to think of picking up a fish. Fish can be seen in the tank at all hours of the day. A hermit crab down molting won't be seen for weeks or months. Hermit crabs require much more in terms of care than a simple fish tank. There are a lot more...

I can find the GE silicone 1 for windows and doors in clear. I'd like to use something with a color to hide the egg crate for a false bottom that will show against the glass of the tank. Have any of you you used a soil moisture meter like this one to monitor the soil moisture levels in their crabitat? I used to use one on my plants. It was pretty accurate.
