Re: Best lights for growing plants in crabitat?

Well I think it depends on what species you're hoping to keep - somewhat. :) Some plants will require more light than others while some will be happy with the "natural" light filtering through your window. Most tropical plants will be happy with the reptisun IMO; however they might get a bit burnt ...

Best lights for growing plants in crabitat?

I've been reading about the different types of lighting and I'm getting confused. I'm using a lot of live plants that are rotated through the crab tank. I would like to add a bulb or two to keep the plants healthy until the crabs start to tear them to shreds and I have to switch them out for a new p...

Re: Pill bugs

Yep, they stay on the ground, and they are good at hiding. I rarely see the ones in my tank.

That's a pretty good run though. I'd be thrilled if mine lasted that long...wait, I think it's close. Now that I've said it, it will probably be gone tomorrow.

Re: School hermit crab?

I think a fish tank would be a better idea. Nobody is going to think of picking up a fish. Fish can be seen in the tank at all hours of the day. A hermit crab down molting won't be seen for weeks or months. Hermit crabs require much more in terms of care than a simple fish tank. There are a lot more...

Is this an acceptable silicone to use in a tank?

I can find the GE silicone 1 for windows and doors in clear. I'd like to use something with a color to hide the egg crate for a false bottom that will show against the glass of the tank. I found this. http://smile.amazon.com/Red-Devil-081640-Silicone-Architectural/dp/B003TEH2Q4/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qi...

Does anyone use a moisture meter?

Have any of you you used a soil moisture meter like this one to monitor the soil moisture levels in their crabitat? I used to use one on my plants. It was pretty accurate. It might be a nice way to check moisture levels especially for some of those deeper substrate levels. http://smile.amazon.com/Et...
