Yep, they stay on the ground, and they are good at hiding. I rarely see the ones in my tank.

That's a pretty good run though. I'd be thrilled if mine lasted that long...wait, I think it's close. Now that I've said it, it will probably be gone tomorrow.

I think a fish tank would be a better idea. Nobody is going to think of picking up a fish. Fish can be seen in the tank at all hours of the day. A hermit crab down molting won't be seen for weeks or months. Hermit crabs require much more in terms of care than a simple fish tank. There are a lot more...

Have any of you you used a soil moisture meter like this one to monitor the soil moisture levels in their crabitat? I used to use one on my plants. It was pretty accurate.
