Sorry, my bad.aussieJJDude wrote: ↑Fri Oct 18, 2019 7:55 amI do want to specify that HCA recommends a minimum of 70% relative humidity, however most people on here tend to strive for 80% (+/- 5%).

Re: Heat
Thanks for the insulation idea! I ordered some & put it on today. The temp went up from 74 to 82! So awesome! What a relief. Now I'm only worried about how cold the sand is. Is about 10"-12" deep. Seems like it will be really cold in the middle. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk You’re welcome! ...

As an FYI for the future, fungus gnats won’t harm your crabs, though they can be a nuisance. You can find tips for controlling them without having to do a full tank clean-out here:https://www.hermitcrabassociation.com/p ... 26&t=92537

Re: How many crabs?
Hi! i have a ten gallon with one golfball sized crab and obviously they need friends so i was wondering how many crabs of similar size can fit comfortably in a ten gallon tank? There are a number of issues with your set-up which I would strongly recommend addressing before you consid...

hello, and welcome to the HCA! We'll do our best to help you and your remaining crab. I've noted a few issues with the information you provided below, i will respond below your responses in bold, with "GG" for GunstreetGirl. 1. Re: New owner Drowned crab: weird situation
If you’re able to fill in the emergency form which provides details on your crabs and the conditions in which they’re being kept we can try to help you figure out if there’s anything in their environment that has contributed to the deaths of two of your crabs. Emergency form: http://hermitcrabassoci...

Re: Using sink water with BRITA water filter?
What if I just get freshwater from the fish store? I’m curious if there’s a reason you’re resistant to buying a dechlorinator/water treatment product? Some concern we can help address? Buying a bottle of Prime will cost you a fraction of what pre-treated water from a fish store will cost, so i’m ho...

Re: MY HALLOWEEN CRAB IS BUBBLING AND HER LEG FELL OFF
I’m still working on a bigger tank and something for humidity besides just spraying the tank with water, which doesn’t seem to give them moisture for very long. I don’t have time to save up anymore. I’m going on $5 a week now, if even that much. I’m going to give my dad all of my money and beg him ...

Have you been able to check the temp/humidity, correct those if necessary, and correct the other issues with your set-up?FinalxFantasy wrote: ↑Tue Oct 15, 2019 10:53 pmMy crab has been acting more alive for the past few days but I had to take out the third leg she's lost today. I also keep my house cold in fall/winter, so I feel you. I have ultratherms covering the entire back of my tank and topper. In the fall/winter, I insulate one whole side of my tank that doesn’t have a UTH with reflective foil insulation (reflectix I think? It’s the pliable stuff with the bubble-wrap...

Re: MY HALLOWEEN CRAB IS BUBBLING AND HER LEG FELL OFF
omg thank u so much. You're sure i can feed overripe fruit to them? Could the hermit crabs eat it too though? Absolutely. Think about a scavenging crab out in the wild - the fruit they’re most likely to be able to readily access is the fruit that’s become overripe and fallen to the ground. My hermi...

Re: Using sink water with BRITA water filter?
I have no idea what is present in your water supply, or the nature of your water supply (well, municipal, etc) or how it’s treated, but a Brita filter will not filter out fluoride, nor will it detoxify/bind ammonia and nitrites, as a quality water treatment product (such as Prime) will do. The solid...

I can try that. I'm going to try to go to a health food store tomorrow to get things If you’re also able to get out to a conventional store (or if your local health food store is a large one set out like a conventional store) with a butchery/meat/seafood counter, you can always try to ask someone t...

Can I also get all purpose sand or play sand for them? I heard coconut fiber isn't always best for tunneling From what i’ve read (emphasis on read - this is me doing google research, not being an expert), the consensus seems to be that ideally you want sand (or a mix of sand and ee) moistened to sa...
