Re: sluggish crab won't leave water bowl

I actually have an acurite gauge, do those have to be calibrated as well?

also my dad says it's definitely humid in the tank, because there is condensation on the front and when he sticks his hand in it feels like how the bathroom feels after my mom takes a shower for 2 hours.

I found this care sheet from HCA and it seems a little outdated. can we please update it or remove it? we should practice what we preach. http://www.hermitcrabassociation.com/pa ... abCare.pdf

Re: sluggish crab won't leave water bowl

I forgot to mention that i am away at college, so my dad is caring for them while i am gone. he called me today letting me know about this. it appears that the crab has stayed in or around the fresh water bowl for 3 days straight.

sluggish crab won't leave water bowl

1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it? Its 50% coconut fiber and 50% play sand hydrated with salt water. It started an even 8 inches but the crabs dug out a section around the bowls so it ranges from 6 inches to 9.5 inches. 2. Do you have gauges in the tank to measure tem...

Re: Really long surface molt?

well, its december now. Still no signs of movement. I picked him up again and he is a orangish salmon color all over. I don't see any signs of decompostion, but....I'm giving up. I'm burying him today.

Crabs eating wire for digital thermometer/hydrometer

I feel so stupid. I was raving about the fancy electronic themometer/hydrometer my dad purchased for me last christmas. I just got home from college about a week ago so i decided to clean out the crab tank, and re-arange the 'furniture'. As i pulled out the sensor to the thermometer, i noticed sever...

Re: Question about lego use

I've heard it suggested before, but it was a long time ago and crabby info changes often so idk if it is still considered 'safe'. I don't see how it can hurt them. Its made of the same stuff as our plastic plants.

Re: No Sounds At All

I've never heard any of my crabs chirp, i adopted 3 of them from a friend who showed video proof of them chirping all the time in her crabitat, but i've never heard them make a peep, i guess they are happier at my house lol

studying them in their natural habitat

I'm going to the florida keys in 3 days! I'm gonna study the natural behavior of the crabs there and document lots of things. I plan on offering shells to them to see how they react as well as food from local and distant regions that they might not have tried before such as coconut. If anyone has an...

Re: Crabbers beware!

Yeah, I thought the fiber were coconut skins ground down, pressed into bricks, and dehydrated? I didn't know it was the trees? Unless they're culling trees for coconuts. That doesn't make sense to me, bit then again, people usually dony make sense. yeah thats what i thought, but i had a picture in ...

Re: Crabbers beware!

It might be because they are collecting the coconut fiber outdoors or something, other stuff is bound to get mixed in :/
