Re: Aggression toward new crab and weird behavior
I adopted a PP last month and have been keeping him in isolation because when I put him in the larger tank with my two other crabs, one of them (Sandy Claws) goes after the newbie (Shelly) aggressively, grabbing and turning Shelly's shell and causing him to retreat and hide. I put Shelly in the big...

Re: Crab Losing Legs
Is it possible for a crab to molt twice within weeks? He molted January 10th. Also, should I remove the... discarded limbs? I haven't touched him at all and they are in a neat pile below him. I don't know about the molting, I think that if he tries to molt it will be hard for him. If he just molted...

Re: I don't understand.
I'm sorry you are going through this, it sounds so stressful!
I hope you will get her (and the molters if you have any) out safe and sound! Good luck
Here I thought crabs are kinda clumsy.. But I guess they can go a long way with stubbornness

Re: Crab Losing Legs
I'm really sorry this is happening, I hope the crab will pull through! I agree with YYWW, but I would also like to ask if you have gauges in the tank? It's very important that the heat and humidity is right for the crabs. If you don't know the temperature and humidity that could also be the reason h...

Re: New hermit crab seems to be dying
I did not, I bought them at a reptile fair so I have no idea about the stores condition :/ they could have arrived at the store just before I guess.
They had lost some leg tips but looked healthy and colorful otherwise.

Re: New hermit crab seems to be dying
I think it is Post Purchase Syndrome/Stress (PPS). It is when a hermit crab goes from being in a bad condition to a good one in a short amount of time. Their body can't handle that. So their body starts shutting down. I have lost four crabs from post purchase syndrome and don't want to loose anothe...

Re: My first hermit crabs have finally arrived!
Did you ever fill out the emergency template? Knowing your crabitat conditions can help pinpoint issues. I'm sorry your crabs aren't doing well and hopefully you can find out what's going on. Yes I did :) here is the link: http://www.hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=102854 I do not t...

Re: My first hermit crabs have finally arrived!
I know some people ISO their newbies for a while for their first molt and shell changes then bathe them in fw before putting them in the main tank. That's something to look into and maybe try for any new crabs. It's a great idea especially if where you get them is "sketchy" or unreliable. You don't...

Re: My first hermit crabs have finally arrived!
There's a forum on new/alternative ways to deal with PPS but from what I read a while back none of the ideas were proven to help MORE than any others... Hermit mommy of 10 PP babies: Octavius Flemming, Poseidon, Junior, Matty Pumpkin, Turbo, Aries, Kaylee Frye, Pepper, Flower and Adrian Shephard. Y...

Re: My first hermit crabs have finally arrived!
I think your first course of action before getting more crabs should be to try and save the ones you have and figure out what's wrong with them. They're not throw away pets and you should try to nurse them back to health before you get more and they die too because of something that's most likely p...

Re: New hermit crab seems to be dying
Your conditions sounds good. It is most likely pps and there isn't a whole lot you can do. Once they start dropping limbs, they are pretty much done. I have tried both leaving them alone and trying to nurse them through but they never make it. I am sorry you have to go through this, but if you are ...
