Re: What are your crabs up to?
LOL you can only take pix and keep a log. Their leg markings like dots and stuff is supposed to help you identify them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I actually do have pics, but it's a pain to go through and compare. I guess if I really need to ID them I can pull out my logs, but in the end t...

Re: What are your crabs up to?
I have 5 crabs in almost identical green turbos now. How the heck am I supposed to tell any of them apart?! :( I got some new shells on Friday and finally got them put in today. Mario is obsessively checking them out. Earlier he was eating dinner, tried to leave the food dish, lost his balance and r...

Re: Questions
Mine is metal screen as well and the only thing that has happened is my heat lamps have baked the color off the metal. I just have the foil cut out around the heat lamp so the foil isn't touching it, and so far so good! No worries about a fire

Re: Questions
No problem :) I think one would be fine in a 20. I just have one in my tank, and I keep it in the center. I try to keep it far enough from the heat lamp that I'm not getting an inaccurate reading, but that's about it. No matter what you go with, I highly suggest calibrating it (instructions here: ht...

Re: Questions
2nd levels are always great, if you can make it work! More climbing room for crabbies then. Personally, I think it's good to at least have a heat lamp as a backup - In my 55 I was running 150 watts between 2 moonglow bulbs, and had an UTH on the back. My UTH died yesterday without warning, and witho...

Also check with your local healthfood type stores for bee pollen; I know mine carries bulk stuff like bee pollen and it's relatively cheap. Saves on shipping, too. A bunch of sellers on Etsy sell it too. Lots of options!

Re: What are your crabs up to?
Meg I love the shell!! hes so darn cute!!! Thank you!! I have 2 almost identical-sized crabs in banded tapestries, so I always have to triple-check who it is. I love when they pick pretty shells. Moonbeam, our hermies lean up against EACH OTHER! No one of them EVER sleeps alone. They particularly l...

Re: new crab problem
What's the best source for hermit crab adoption? We are new at keeping hermies ... the first one was caught by a local fisherman; felt so sorry for him, in light of the conditions in which he was kept. The next three were mail-ordered by one of our sons, who realized how lonely crab #1 was becoming...

Chirping?
For the past few days, I'm hearing a LOT of chirping from the tank. I have 6-7 crabs up, and every time I hear the chirping I go over to investigate. So far, whenever I look, none of my crabs are within 6" of each other so I don't think it's angry chirping. Would I be able to hear if they're doing i...

Re: What are your crabs up to?
My super shy crab, Samwell, is up today. I got him in mid-September from someone on Craigslist. She had owned him for 2 years and he wasn't in great condition - no saltwater, commercial diet, etc. He dug down immediately and molted, but I rarely see him. He comes up every once in a while to stuff hi...

Re: What are your crabs up to?
I just checked on the crabs and one of my guys was in the food dish. As soon as he saw me, he froze for a second, then snagged a piece of food with his little claw and scuttled backwards as fast as he could to hide. That's not the first time it's happened, either. Last night I surprised 3 of ...

Re: Tank size comparisons?
I don't have pics to show a comparison, but check this link out for dimensions/weights on different sizes: http://freshaquarium.about.com/od/aquariumsandstands/a/tanksizesweights.htm A 55 is significantly longer, a little deeper, and a decent amount higher depending on if you're looking at a 20 gall...

Re: What are your crabs up to?
I redid my tank today, so naturally everyone is hiding. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v410/xadrienne/Mobile%20Uploads/20141104_173033.jpg And here is Tyrion, my littlest, staring at the rope with his antenna vibrating. Maybe he's working up the courage to go climbing? Haha. Excuse the clo...
