Re: Condensation

I leave it for the most part, although I wipe down the glass every couple of weeks since the droplets dry and form a film. Crab logic dictates that even if the water bowls have JUST been refilled, the condensation is tastier, so who am I to take away their fancy drinking source? ;)

Need some advice for my gimpy crab.

For those who didn't read my topic in Crabitat Conditions, I dug in my 40 and found 2 naked crabs who had molted recently. Both re-shelled and finished their exo, and the one has rejoined the colony without an issue. The other one is missing both walking legs on one side, presumably from an attack. ...

Re: "Naked" Crab since 2/4/2016

That's good he re-shelled! Sometimes it's easier for them to get into a big shell, so I wouldn't worry that it's too big - the important thing is he's in something. If he continues to seem weak, you may consider isolating him with food and water just so he doesn't have to move much and there's no co...

Re: Water Filters

Most people who do filters are running large pools in big tanks. It's easier for them since they don't have to do frequent water changes, which can be awkward in big pools. Personally, I just use Tupperware containers for my water dishes and change them about every other day. For a tank your size, y...

Re: Es and straws

Still a very vivid red! And yes, cute either way :) I rarely edit pics that I take with my phone since I'm lazy, but I like to play around whenever I break out the "real" camera. Guess I should try it with the crabs sometime since I know it makes a big difference, if I ever get un-lazy.

Re: What is this?

I got it to show by rick clicking and opening it in a new tab. Honestly, I can't see anything in that pic :( Can you get a clearer one with the flash on? If he's acting okay I wouldn't worry too much. Sounds like it's the right location for a molting sack since they're tucked back pretty far in thei...

Re: really bad molt...any suggestions?

It sounds like you're doing what you can. My personal rule is if I have an injured crab or bad molt, I isolate them for a molt. Less stress and no competing for resources. I would move him to the 5 gallon and keep an eye on him. With the stress he's been through, a surface molt could be too much for...

Re: Molting after only 3 days-Newbie questions

Welcome! What size is your tank? You have the proper substrate depth so you should be fine on that. No need to iso a molting crab assume there are no crowding issues, and as long as your tank is at least a 10 gallon you should be fine. I'd just leave him be. :) Transportation can be a little tricky,...

Re: hermit crab not moving

Try to get your temp up to 80. That's the recommended number, and anything below 75 can cause them to be sluggish. Below 70 can be a death sentence. What kind of heat source do you have on your tank right now?

Re: All three down for over three months now

Always go with your gut. As someone who just dug today and found 2 naked crabs in need of help, I'll never tell anyone not to follow their instincts. Can you run through your tank conditions? Questions are here: http://hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=46102 You can just copy and ...

Re: What are your crabs up to?

Other than my 40 gallon drama, my crabs have just been doing what they do best - eating, pooping, trashing the tanks, and eating more. No one has gotten stuck, gotten on the lid, destroyed anything...It makes me suspicious. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/02/04/e107c8bdab8f075990c9041e14837830.jpg...

Re: What temp is considered best for PP?

My tank was consistently 91-93 recently and if anything, the crabs were more active. They have plenty of spots to cool down, though. The glass that my UTH is up against is almost always 110-115 and it doesn't bother them at all. PPs are pretty adaptable! If you're worried about the temps getting too...

That's really too deep for me even think about, Kelly. Whoever it is they look adorable! Such soft, pretty coloring. I like the puppy dog eyes they have.: How can critters with eyestalks, no eyebrows or face to speak for expression, manage such clearly darling puppy dog eyes? Ne...

It's hard to say without actually seeing it. Is it behind his back left walking leg? What color is it? Instructions for posting pics are here: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=87783
