Re: Wish me luck...

Annnd I'll be done spamming this thread for at least a little while after this post. My husband kindly informed me he didn't want me keeping the 2 crabs in our nicer food storage containers, so I went to Dollar Tree and got some cheapie plastic sandwich containers instead. He drilled holes in the si...

Re: Wish me luck...

Those dogs cannot be trusted! Don't think they are all innocent because they are so adorable. Lol At least one of them is a crab food thief!!! Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk No kidding! The black one is devil spawn, hahaha. Their cuteness is their saving grace. The other one is a senior citiz...

Re: Wish me luck...

Haha yes, those containers have the 2 fresh molters in them! They're an eyesore but it's the easiest way to keep conditions good for them.

And yes, hubby and I are both gamers and a little Xbox obsessed. All my hobbies in one room!

Forgot to add this pic...my 2 helpers. Ha!

Image

They helped by tripping me, nosing through every thing, and generally being total pains. Lol!

Re: Wish me luck...

It looks good! Well it's probably a good thing you dug into the substrate and found those crabs! I recently had a crab come up from a molt naked and very pink. His shell was hijacked during his molt and now a female larger then him is wearing it. It's crazy when your pregnant how sensitive you beco...

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160204/57f673eb1a726c231d13d73893eaaa51.jpg Entire tank. On the list is deeper water dishes - all the crabs can easily swap their shell water but can't completely submerge, so that's my next addition. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160204/edb39c7615065d2f64a0f50...

Re: Wish me luck...

And done. Found a second naked crab and I have no idea what's going on! He's isoed as well, and is missing both walking legs on the left side. I had to hold off putting all the decor back in since I have the 2 fresh molters in containers in there. I have a 3rd in a different iso tank since he's extr...

Re: Wish me luck...

Oh yeah, I've been sensitive to smells! I lost a crab last month and used my nose to track him down in the shell shop. Even after he was sealed in a baggie I could smell him. So far the second trimester is better than the first, lol. I decided to dig because of the bloom and thank God I did - I foun...

Re: Okay, you creeper..

Remember that picture you posted a while back about your crabbies planning world domination? I'm telling you, you need to evacuate the house immediately :P  Ahh why would you remind me about that?! :hlol: Lol I can relate. I have one of my tanks beside my couch so I can admire them, sometimes ...

Re: Wish me luck...

Thanks guys! I'm a little nervous to add more sand, and I think I may have a patch of bacterial bloom starting. Sigh. I don't have a false bottom in this tank and I've had the setup for a year with no issues, but there's a black section by the glass that has the nasty odor. I'm gonna have to careful...

Re: Second levels?

Oh yeah, if you use containers support them with something or you'll be re-hanging them every day! The 6" cholla pieces from craft stores are perfect and cheap. Also, if you're going to use suction cups, they die a lot quicker if they're against the same glass as an UTH (if you're using one). The he...

Re: Which species next?

It all depends on where you live - not all crab species are available in different locations. I only own purple pinchers and don't have experience with other species, but as far as I know they're all mostly active at night. My PPs come out and explore during the day but nighttime is when they're out...

Okay, you creeper..

Minding my own business, checking the temp in the 55, and I see this: http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160204/fea155aed703b7101ef6a490ae08f25e.jpg I don't know who it is (I can only reliably ID like..7 crabs) but he didn't even flinch when I stuck my phone in his face for a pic. He's probably wonde...

Re: How do i keep everything warm in the tank

Okay, that's too low. I would suggest misting for now to keep it up. Have you calibrated your hygrometer? It's really easy to do and it'll make sure you're getting the right reading. All you need is a bottlecap, some salt, and a baggie! Instructions are here: http://hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/v...

Re: How do i keep everything warm in the tank

What is your humidity reading right now? It may stabilize on its own but you'll want to keep an eye on it :)
