Re: What are your crabs up to?
Ryry, I'm jealous! I wish I had 10 crabs up! I went digging on November 6th (long story on why) and that night, when I had 16 crabs up (Biggie was in iso so he doesn't count) the tank was WILD. Clanking and food scattering and things knocked over...it was awesome! Then the next morning, all the crab...

Re: What are your crabs up to?
I have some possible good news! Whilst creeping on my crabs tonight I have been trying to pay attention to who is who... And my first crab may have finally come up from his molt!! I'm going to do a head count soon- the next time I quick clean the tank I'll pull them all out to verify. That way you ...

Re: Help finding a top for my 55 gallon aquarium??
Just wanted to share, I ordered a lid from dr. Smith &foster. It came a week earlier than I thought it would, had plenty of packaging and "fragile" labels all over it! It's in great shape and it was a great price :) (got it on sale). Totally elated to have a legit lid now! I would definitely recomm...

Re: What are your crabs up to?
Thanks guys!! If they ignore the tree I'll be so mad. Lol. I had tons of fun decorating :) I'll be sad when the holidays are over and I'll have to take the lights down. Edit: Pinchy crab that got stuck is Cersei. That makes sense...she's the only crab other than Loki that has pinched me before. :lol...

Re: What are your crabs up to?
Finally got the tank rearranged/redecorated for Christmas. I ended up finding 4 crabs, so 13 are buried. I had a few moments of panic since I have a large piece of fake driftwood that has 2 holes on the bottom. One of the crabs had wedged himself in there and got stuck. My hubby finally managed to g...

Re: What are your crabs up to?
I love everyone's pics! I don't have much to post since I still only have a couple crabs up. Tomorrow I'm going to be decorating the tank for Christmas, so I can at least get pics of the tank once it's done. Lol! I'm kind of curious...How many crabs does everyone in this thread have, and how many ar...

Re: heating and humidity questions
Do you have a thermometer/hygrometer in your crabitat? If so, what's your temp/humidity at? I don't have any personal experience using a tote as a crabitat, but I believe Ultratherm UTHs are safe to use on plastic. I'm not sure about other brands. What size is the UTH you're using? Ideally you'll ha...

Re: What are your crabs up to?
Biggie changed shells last night, yay! He was in an ugly magpie forever. Not that I really care too much, as long as he's happy, but I'm glad he finally showed an interest in prettier shells. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/11/27/f0c7de9a337d7025c05807ff74def5ff.jpg Other than that, most of my ...

Re: Both switched shells this weekend!
I think generally yes, they prefer D-shaped openings but that isn't a rule. Kind of like how PPs prefer turbos, but there are always ones who like weirder shells like murexes, fox, babylonia shells, etc.

Re: Not moving at all
As long as your conditions are good, there isn't a lot you can do. :( Just do your best to leave him alone, keep offering healthy foods, etc. With luck, he'll perk up soon. PPS just plain stinks - I've lost several crabs to it, and it's hard knowing there isn't more you can do. I'll keep my fingers ...

Re: Most consecutive days down without molting?
My largest crab, Gregor, has been down since the day I got him, September 11th. I did see him on November 6th and he still hadn't molted. So that was...56ish? days down. He re-buried Nov. 6th and I haven't seen him since. He never had a window so I couldn't keep an eye on him, but I'm fairly certain...

Re: What are your crabs up to?
Does anyone else have weird crabs who sleep in strange positions? 9 times out of 10, when I check on the crabs Biggie is rocked back on his "butt", tucked in his shell and just chilling out. He's done that ever since I got him. I have a small dish with teeny shells for my smallest crab, and last nig...

Re: What are your crabs up to?
So I have 9, 6 PP's and 3 E's. Only 5 are out and about and every last one of them is a hide'r. They are all like "%#$# - there's that chick again at 3 am check and here I am out in the open. RUN FOREST RUN!!!!" Good news is that the first thing I saw was one of the new guys painted shell in the mi...

Re: Got new crab yesterday, now he's molting?
He probably dug down to de-stress :) It's possible he'll molt as well, but obviously you won't know until he comes back up. If your substrate is deep enough, you don't need to worry about your other crab digging him up. If you want, list your tank specs/conditions and we can take a look and offer ad...
