Re: What are your crabs up to?
Wow, that is kind of freaky. I didn't get a chance to see very clearly the entire end of my crab, but I saw most of her. For these shells you have, I am quite interested. My crab that isn't molting has been trying on different shells, but still goes back to her old one. I want to get a better varie...

Re: What are your crabs up to?
I've seen quite a few of my guys change shells, either because I'm lucky or they like to show off their naked bodies. I won't lie, their squishy butts freak me out. I had to handle/re-shell a naked, soft, freshly molted crab I saved from a petstore, and he scuttled around on my hand dragging h...

Re: What are your crabs up to?
Ever since I got my 2 newest crabs, Mario & Yoshi, there has been SO much chirping in my tank. No fights at all, just chirpchirpchirp all the time. I can't fully blame them since I haven't confirmed they're the ones doing it, but it's sure a strange coincidence. Silly crabs. The troublemakers: http:...
Re: Soy/tofu?
Would the high salt content be bad for them? I'll grab some next time I go shopping and see what they think. Rotting fish, how delightful.

Re: What are your crabs up to?
I love the idea of starting this topic! It's a great place to share the excitement we have about our crabs! Last night and today, I caught my Ollie climbing on things! This is a big deal to me, because I have put so many things in my crabitat for my crabs to climb on, but I have never seen them cli...

Re: What are your crabs up to?
Same here - I'll drop tons of money on my pets/crabs without batting an eye, but I can barely justify spending more than $10 for a shirt for myself. I have so many dried foods for them, but I figure that's not a big deal since they don't eat much - so I spend a lot up front, but it lasts forev...

Re: What are your crabs up to?
That's good to know, thanks! I probably will insulate it since we keep our house pretty cool. It's such a pain to get into the tank when I have 2 heat bulbs and then a LED daylight bulb. I'd really like a glass lid at some point if the heat lamp isn't needed anymore. I'm great at spending money.

Re: What are your crabs up to?
I ordered the 11 x 35. I thought about getting the 11 x 47 so it would cover almost the entire back of the tank, but decided against it.
Re: Soy/tofu?
Fish sauce? I'm assuming that's a sauce made of fish? I bet that smells delightful. Regular grocery stores have it?

Sounds like a plan! Make sure you post pics of it once you have it all set up
Re: Soy/tofu?
Ooh, honey could work! I was also thinking of maybe making a chicken or beef broth and cooking it with that. It's not like I can taste test it myself and see what's good - I hate tofu.

Re: Dead thermostat?!?
Are you able to go out and buy a cheap heat lamp and heat bulb? Or can you put a bottle or 2 of hot water in the tank and wrap the tank with a blanket to trap the heat in? Maybe a space heater you can aim at the tank?

Re: Questions
Ah, got it! That will certainly help. If you use the 26w plus the 8w, you may be able to get away with a lower wattage heat bulb, or eliminate it entirely.

Re: Questions
I don't see any reason not to keep any of them - they could be handy as a backup. The 1st one (UVB bulb) doesn't look like it heats, but it would be good for daytime viewing. If you're putting it on a screen lid, though, that will filter the UVB by about 50%. I don't know anything about the Ion bulb...

Re: Tunnel Holes
I smooth my substrate pretty regularly since my guys seem to think they're part gopher and love destroying the tank It's fine to do, just don't pack the sand down or anything.
