Re: Shell stolen from newly surfaced molter!!!!
I'm glad he re-shelled! That must have been so scary. I don't see any reason it would happen again, but obviously keep an eye on the situation. You can never have too many shells! What size range are you looking for? A lot of places sell packages of shells - thehermitcrabpatch.com does, and I've als...
Soy/tofu?
I keep looking for alternate protein sources to keep things varied for the crabs. I saw that soy products are on the safe list, but I'm wondering if people's crabs actually like tofu? I know by itself it's pretty bland, so any ideas on how to prep it to make it tastier?

Re: What are your crabs up to?
FINALLY one of my crabs is using the rope I put in like...a week ago. Thank you, Phyl. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/11/10/c6774fdc6a89f2ae7f9e0521d5483b0f.jpg Then this morning she had knocked all the shells out of the shop that is for my teeny crab, and parked her fat butt in it. Really?! M...

Re: What are your crabs up to?
Thanks guys, you make me feel a little better about my sanity. My personal Christmas decorations are minimal because I have 3 cats, but I can go crazy on the crabitat at least!

They all look like Purple Pinchers to me. Cute crabs, and your tank looks great!

Re: What are your crabs up to?
Oh man, the possibilities with a tank that big...mmmm. My husband, despite his protests every time I get another crab, helped me the other night while I photographed all the crabs and measured their shell openings. He's good at updating me if he sees something going on, and is extremely fond of my f...

Re: What are your crabs up to?
Awesome! I also have about 10" of sub so that gives me a lot to look forward to with adoptions! So far I only have PPs as well and have no intentions of having exotics till I get a "big" tank [emoji1 I want a big tank too...don't tell my hubby. ;) I'm hoping to get a 90 gallon next year if things g...

Re: What are your crabs up to?
It's a 55. My biggest crab is a large (1.5" shell opening), and I have a couple mediums that are in 1" openings - the rest are all in shells that are less than 3/4". They're all PPs, which can make a difference since they can handle the crowding more. ;) I've had up to 11 buried at a time and they d...

Re: What are your crabs up to?
Holy crabs! I can't imagine having 17 or 27 crabs! My 8 are plenty to keep me busy (for now anyways...) no wonder they get confusing to keep up with! Wish all the hermies could wear name tags. Then we'd never have these issues [emoji1] but those would be some TINY name tags lol. Trust me, there are...

Re: What are your crabs up to?
I'm jealous of you guys who have no trouble telling your crabs apart. Out of 17 crabs I can consistently identify at least 10, so I guess I'm not doing TOO bad. 3 of the 5 in green turbos I can tell apart if I pick them up, but I have a feeling if I learned their individual shells they would s...

Re: Questions
The moonlight bulbs are the best! Anything I can leave on 24/7 makes me happy, haha. 100 watts MAY be too much for a 20 gallon combined with an UTH, but you never know. You could always get a fixture that has a dimmer, but be aware that a lot of those sold at pet stores won't support that much watta...

Re: Is this a safe second level?
I would just be careful that the coating doesn't flake! I have some similar things in my kitchen, and over time the coating chips and exposes the metal. The climbing background should totally make it safe, though
