Re: What are your crabs up to?
Thanks! I'm generally a terrible photographer. My smallest crab, Aster, just executed a totally bizarre kamikaze move. She made her way to the edge of the second level shell shop. She looked down at Luis, who was directly below for a moment... and stepped without any hesitation over the edge, hitti...

I snapped some pictures because I knew that if I liked the shell, Luis would discard it in under ten minutes, because crabs are perverse that way. Sure e...

Re: How big is your tank/s
$20 each?! Whoa. I knew I was spoilt, living in Toronto (fish are especially inexpensive here), but I had no idea they could cost that much. I mean... I guess it's because you're in Australia. But wow. They're a $3 fish here. You can buy like, ten, and get them for about 1.50 ea in some pla...

4 of 5 up for once :D Strawberry TRASHED the tank. That's kinda his specialty. Finally got some chia growing  http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/cc447/shanedaman112/20170201_1907061_zpsdm2jrnto.jpg but you can clearly see it only grew because they couldn't get to it and eat it. I fed them mos...

Re: Mosquito larvae for food?
I tried this again since there are literally thousands of larvae in our little ditch. This time I built a sundrier (is that a word?) out of plastic wrap. Much better results. All 100% dead.

Re: Aussie Breeding attempt #2 Dec 2016
Christmas Day 2016 It's official. I have first crabs. I hardly believe it but I have actually managed on my 2nd attempt to raise land hermit crabs (Coenobita variabilis) in captivity. DOH was 4th December 2016. Tonight (Christmas Night) when I looked at photos taken in the last 24hours I feel that ...

Re: Should I Continue Crabbing?
Happens to all of us at some point. I've been having major humidity issues in my 40 as of late too. I rewrapped my lid and mixed a gallon of water in the sub to get it moist again. My bubblers (in both pools, 1/3 gal each) took care of it from there. I'm also getting a new heater since the temps a l...

Re: What are your crabs up to?
Lol! That's pretty funny, PinchersandShells! Mike I believe is trying the mannequin challenge. He's been sitting in the same spot for like 30 mins now. Not hiding in his shell. Just looking with feelers just kinda twitching ever so slightly. I think he's winning the challenge [emoji38] True story: ...
