Re: i hate petsmart!
I'm so sorry! I know exactly how you feel! Last December I bought two new hermit crabs from Petsmart, and I had a similar experience. I named one of them, and I was still trying to decide on the name for the other one. That unnamed crab passes away about 3 days after the purchase. I felt so terrible...

Re: I got my hands on a 55 gallon tank!
Hello again to everyone! I haven't really been on here since the first day the site went down for the merge. I'm glad to see it back up and running! I want to try to get invovled again with all my fellow crabbers on here. I have really missed replying to and sharing all of our great crabbing adventu...

Re: I got my hands on a 55 gallon tank!
I'm curious about the top you made...could you give a little more detail? Specifically about the tile molding? And how does it allow for air circulation? Looks very cool! Re: I got my hands on a 55 gallon tank!
Update! Okay so I have not gotten a ton of work done on my new setup, but I have done a few things that I will share. I made my own DIY sliding glass top! I went to Lowes and bought some handles, tile moulding to support the glass, and of course, the glass itself. I had some cut for me and all toget...

Re: I got my hands on a 55 gallon tank!
It's a Tetra 55 gallon tank, 48" W x 13" D x 20" H. So this huge tank is like 4 feet long. But the main purpose of a false bottom is to prevent flooding. The PVC couplings act as the base to support the egg crate and the substrate. Then the weed block keeps the substrate from getting under the false...

Re: I got my hands on a 55 gallon tank!
Now I first started with my false bottom, which took way too much time and some frustration. But I finished it, and this was the result: http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/07/10/3e94c4eb66964d89d527264a5ce6a7f2.jpg http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/07/10/90fffec254d9da3984781faf3c72f76d.jpg http://im...

I got my hands on a 55 gallon tank!
Hey everyone! I wanted to share with you guys the progress of my new crabitat setup! I bought a 55 gallon tank from Petco, during their $1 per gallon sale, and I have been very excited to set it up. This page will be dedicated to the pictures I will share while I get this tank together for my crabs....

Re: 55 Gallon Tank Setup Questions and Suggestions
Thanks you everyone one for your input! I actually have already started on my false bottom, I just need to find the time to finish it... And I better hurry, because everyone is currently up now from molting. I will probably be purchasing the 11x47 Ultratherm. But quick question, is the Ultratherm Se...

55 Gallon Tank Setup Questions and Suggestions
Hey everyone! I recently took advantage of Petco's $1 per gallon sale, and bought a 55 gallon tank! Now that I have my hands on one, I will be spending this summer setting it up. But I do have some questions before I start, and I am asking for your feed back and suggestions on what to do. First of a...

Re: Well I had my first escape...
I have. I found one of my crabs hanging on a strand of Christmas lights I have on my tank. How did you make your sliding glass top? I would really like one but don't want to waste money if I can make a much cheaper one. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk I made mine, spending at the most, $15. But ...

Well I had my first escape...
Today I came into my room and looked at my tank, and saw signs of a possible escape. I have a home made sliding glass top for my crabitat, but it has a chipped corner, with about a half inch broken off. I covered it with tape, thinking that would keep them from escaping, which it has for months, unt...

Re: New 55 Gallon
I love it! The cholla wood looks like a hermit crab jungle gym! If I were a crab, I would love playing on it all day. It looks awesome! I'm hoping to upgrade soon, but I need to buy a car, so it may be a while until I can afford an upgrade.
