newbie's 20 gal. long build
I am a new owner (3 weeks) and thanks to this forum, the great people and awesome ideas, I graduated rom a poorly built 10 gal. to a new 20 gal. long (and I'm sure, larger in the future!). Thought I would share some pics, and maybe stress the most important things I have learned here on building a h...

Re: Freaking out about the heat a little
Yep just taped it right over the uth..both sides and the whole back. I want to design an insulated top next. Just like the roof on your house...It can let a lot of heat escape! I don't know how long the heaters last.

Buy insulation board from Home Depot...$6 a sheet. It is about an inch thick. Worked great for my "cool" bedroom, and tank stays toasty, even at night, it doesn't go below 75.

Re: Tank issues.. on my last straw
I agree it may be because it is the exoterra. I bought a 20 gallon long aquarium from petsmart for $32.99, 2 UTH's ($20 ea), hung 2 moss baskets, and mist twice a day. I keep my room cool due to hot flashes (!) and my humidity stays around 75-80% and my temp between 75-85 degrees. I put insulation b...

Re: New bubbler pool-start
I saw that idea on another site. Then I saw someone on here who silicone the rocks right to the netting that the rocks came in, and then laid a stone ramp down into a sturdier dish. That's what I just did yesterday. I also found a couple of very nice size square bowls at Dollar Tree. I will be posti...

New tank set up..drainage question
I bought a new 20 gallon long. Instead of the false bottom set up I have read so much about, has anyone used aquarium gravel at the bottom of the substrate (like you do when you transplant flowers)?
Thanks!
Thanks!

"Does this shell make me look fat?"
I got 2 new hermies last night, and upon setting the littlest one down, she instantly trotted over to the extra sheels and started trying them on! She would find one, switch into it, then keep going in and out, trying to decide if it was a good fit! Lol! I wish I could have filmed it! She spent a go...

Re: New one lost a leg, is grooming it, still eating
He was dead this morning, but in the other ones shell! He wasn't limp (I checked onthem about 1 am and they were both up and about and eating), just upside down, smashed into the other ones too-small shell, and in rigor mortis! And I got to watch the other one change into the new shell (again...she ...

New one lost a leg, is grooming it, still eating
Hi! One of my PP's (about a week and a half with me) lost a leg last night. He seems to still be eating. I watched him and he keeps "grooming" the stump of the lost leg with his grooming thing towards the back of his body. He also seemed to be doing unusual things with his feeding "hands" and antenn...

New Mom, Happy crabs!
Hi! I just became a new crabber while on vacation in Chincoteague Island this year! I bought one of those poor painted-shell hermies at the beach shop, but it didn't survive long after the 9 hour ride home in a not-so-great home! Since finding this site, I upgraded to a regular aquarium with all the...

I live just outside of Pittsburgh and my crabs are just pigging out! No tunneling yet but I wonder if they will start soon!
