Re: Molting crab in uncovered hole!

This is definitely a case of an attack by another crab. It happens occasionally. The active crab(s) go digging, knowing they might find a molter (in other words, a tasty snack), and once they do, they rip it from it's shell, which results in missing legs, eat it's exo if it is still there, and steal...

Re: Molting crab in uncovered hole!

I didn't find any exo. I am sure that whoever attacked her ate it. So I roll the honey qtip in cuttle bone. Good news this morning! She hadn't come out when I was putting food or water in. She was completely white all over.. This morning I decided to take a closer look to see if there was more damag...

Re: Plant in my crabitat

Whatever you plant, they will destroy. It is only a matter of time. Sprouts of anything won't get much of a start, since full grown plants get demolished in days, depending on the size and appetite of your crew!

Re: Peanut butter

Best to use organic or natural but I have fed regular in a pinch and no one was the worse for it.

Re: Molting crab in uncovered hole!

Thanks, CAlla, I will do that. I have a qtip with honey rolled in fine cuttle bone, and I know I put it right beside the shell opening, and this morning, it was back away from him,. So he is either eating it, or shoving it away! I will NEVER forget the look in those tiny eyes when he was trying to c...

Also, a false bottom helps tremendously for this exact situation.

Re: My experience with a flooded tank(1.5 inches)

Floods are not fun at all! But your sub really needs to be deeper. If it had been at the recommended 6", they would have been able to carry on as usual, until you were able to change it. But at least you gave them something to stand on.

Re: Molting crab in uncovered hole!

He still seems to be alive and if not mistaken, I would say he had JUST molted his eco when this happened. He is very white with just a little pink. He reminds me of a newborn critter, with undeveloped body parts. He has 3 legs. His feeding claw and BP are gone. He had scooted his legs down towards ...

Looking for thread for care of attacked molter

I read a thread a while ago, I think by Wode, about an attacked molter of hers with no legs that she nursed back to health. If anyone knows where it is, can you post a link please? I have one now, just found missing several legs.

Re: Molting crab in uncovered hole!

Thanks, guys. I put some sub and moss in a small plastic tub that has a lid with holes in it. I peeked to make sure he was in the shell, since he had tried to fight me going into it, and it looks like he is retracted into it, since all I can see are legs down inside. That is a relief, since that was...

Re: Molting crab in uncovered hole!

He is missing legs...think he was attacked. No shell, no exo. Don't think he will make it. Seems very weak. I put honey in with him but doesn't look good.

Re: Molting crab in uncovered hole!

Had a bad feeling and glad I checked on him. He was naked and trying to dig out! Got him iso'd and partially in shell. Should I put sub in...moss? Food and water? He appears to be mid molt.
