Re: I miss them
To my surprise, I woke up to find Big Bill out this morning . After I turned the light on and he saw me, he ran away and hid under the log, but at least I know he is alive!

Re: I miss them

ETA: i would expect a teeny and small to be up in a month, but 2 or more is not unheard of.. I believe I have done everything right. I have had my con...

I miss them
Hey, So I haven't been on this site for a little while, mostly because I haven't seen my crabs in a while. I have 3 crabs right now: Snap, Big Bill, and Little Bill. Snap has made a small hole in the substrate where I can see him. He isn't molting. He sits there during the day, and has a wild party ...

Re: Science Expirement
There is someone here on the HCA who did an experiment with hearing. Her name is Yadokarination I believe, she also has a youtube channel. She put her phone in a box with her hermit crabs and turned off the vibration and turned up the volume. She called it and saw if they reacted or not. She said sh...

Wow, that's amazing!! Glad you saw her when you did. I've heard hermit crabs molt faster during surface molts. I'm so glad she is ok!!

Re: Unknowingly disturbed a molt and he dropped 2 limbs.
Hello, 1. 6 inches of play sand is recommended 2. Be sure to have a humidity gauge as well 3. Don't put the heater under the tank. It is a hazard. I recommend a heater on the side(s) of the tank 4. Make sure you offer salt water. Instant ocean is a good brand 5. Food is good except the commercial fo...

Re: Vacation
Maybe put a blanket around the tank for transportation, so they cant see out and become stressed, and to keep them warm. Maybe in the car you can see if you can point the heaters towards them. As for the instructions, be sure to mention humidity( I don't know how you regulate it, but I use a spray b...

Re: New Hermit Crab Owner - Not sure about environment
Your welcome
Is there room for fresh air to get in the tank? It is important they do have some fresh air.
Glad I helped and your conditions are improving

Re: New Hermit Crab Owner - Not sure about environment
Hello, 1. Yes, the substrate should be inches deep. Play sand is also good to mix in with your Coconut/eco fiber. The sand does not need to be replace every other week. If it is looking gross or you have mites/bugs, then you should change it. 2. Maybe try a UTH, I have seen them online, not sure wha...
