Re: New Crab Owner In need of Advice

The commercial food I use is made by Jurassi Diet. I know these foods can be harmful, so I looked for one with few ingredients. I try to give it to them as little as possible, but sometimes I don't have time to prepare fresh food. My first hermit crab, Peewee died in the middle of a surface molt, I ...

Re: Charm is GONE?

She probably buried herself. I saw my hermit crab bury and he didn't leave a mound of dirt.

Re: New Crab Owner In need of Advice

1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it? I use play sand, it is about 4 inches deep. 2. Do you have gauges in the tank to measure temperature and humidity? If so, where are they located and what temperature and humidity do they usually read? I have a heat and humidity gauge...

New Crab Owner In need of Advice

Altogether I have had three hermit crabs in two months. They were all Ecuadorians. Two passed away, one might still be with me. Her name is Starlite, and she has been buried for over a month and a half. I am going to petsmart to get purple pinchers, as soon as I know if Starlite makes it or not. Doe...

Re: Crabitat Heating and Humidity

Hello, Is the bowl glass or plastic? I think glass holds humidity better. I have a rectangular aquarium, and my heat and humidity stay nice. If you absolutely can't keep the humidity up, I would recommend misting more than once a day. I am not really sure what the box turtles have to do with the her...

Re: Limp crab, no death smell?

I am very sorry about Turbo. You did not have him very long, it is possible his death was caused from stress.

Hope all goes well with you future crabs

Re: New crab adopted today

Hello,
This cute little guy looks like a purple pincher. His eyes should clear after a molt :)

I'm not a hermit crab expert, but this is most likely a purple pincher or Ecuadorian, I have an Ecuadorian, so I think yours is a purple pincher.

Hope everything goes well,

Re: Limp crab, no death smell?

Hello, I am a new crabber but hopefully I can help, I have done a lot of research. It is possible Turbo (love the name by the way) did not molt. He may have been distressing. He might be trying to pull a surface molt. If he is, don't worry, it is probably nothing you did, some crabs surface molt and...
